About Me

A musician by profession and an independent photographer. Co-founder of an initiative called OK! North East, a portal to help out travellers to get information about North East India. (www.oknortheast.com | www.fb.com/NorthEastindia)

I have my houses in Guwahati (Assam), Umiam (Meghalaya) and Shergaon (Arunachal Pradesh) and I stay in all 3 places throughout the month.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Why not? It's the best way to express love and kindness. We in North-east India have been hosting strangers for thousands of years. For us, guests mean good luck (well, I don't believe in luck so much, but mostly in friendship and fun). Also, couchsurfing has been one of the best mediums to make friendships and make this world a livable place.

I love traveling and want to help out fellow travelers. I said TRAVELERS, not tourists, mind it! 😀

My place is strictly for travelers who are looking to explore North East India. If your interest is to know more about the unexplored parts and offbeat places of the northeastern region of India, my place is all yours, and I'll be glad to give you information and details. Sometimes, if I'm free and I like you too much, I might even take you to the Sacred Grove, Root Bridges, Floating Lake, or the Whispering Forest, or a 2-hour trek to some unexplored waterfalls in the hills. I also have a small house near Umiam Lake, and we might end up enjoying some live music, wine by the bonfire, and pork there too.

But, if you're just here to waste time inside the house, and have little to no interest in exploring my beautiful land or getting to know my tribesmen, well, why are you in the NorthEast then??

I love exchanging culture and making new friends. Let me tell you one thing, you'll be surprised to know about certain things of the North East which might be alien to people from other parts of India. For example, the all-women market in Manipur, matriarchal and matrilineal societies of Meghalaya, no dowry system in the entire North East, markets with no shopkeepers in Mizoram, the Magic Village called Mayong, or the floating lake in Manipur. There are many such facts.

I don't mind you prying into my personal life as long as we are friends. I generally don't ask too many questions about your personal life until you want to share yourself. But circumstances where I get new information about this world by meeting people are the whole reason why I'm on CouchSurfing.

What's better than having friends all over the world?

Interests

Well, life is interesting. Everything I do, I do for my passion. I don't like to waste time on things that don't interest me, and the biggest of all is the '9-6 job'.

I can work for 36 hours straight if needed, especially if it's interesting and challenging. But, I can also watch 5 movies in a row or read a complete Dan Brown novel at one go if I don't find anything interesting to work on.

I find people interesting, especially travelers and vagabonds. I find them to be honest and straightforward. If you're someone who likes to talk, I can chat for hours on different topics, but only if the chats are meaningful and I'm learning something new.

I love animals, and my house is full of them. Most of the canine and feline friends that I have are all rescued from different streets in deplorable conditions. Do you love animals? Cool, I love you too. ☺️

My friends, who are my actual family, often visit me for bonfires and barbecues in the winters or some live music on my terrace. Evenings are generally fun. As most of my friends are musicians or music lovers and super friendly people, you might end up connecting with most of them and spend the entire night singing, sipping on wine, and talking. You're welcome to be a part of my family.

I also find nature very interesting and amusing. I loathe people who are constantly destroying it; yes, that includes me too. 😊 But, I'm talking more in terms of littering. I want to keep my North East clean. Please don't litter when you visit my home. 🚯

Well, this is just a small part. I'll tell you more if you have time to spend with me - and only if we find each other interesting. 😇 You're welcome to my abode anyway!

Oh! Did I tell you about my music? We'll talk about that too... 🎸👨‍🎤

Music, Movies, and Books

Too little space to put all.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I planned one day on 'Staying Happy Always'!

Teach, Learn, Share

Everything

What I Can Share with Hosts

A bed, food, and friendship.

Free accommodation in Guwahati for travelers and backpackers who are not residing in India and who are looking to learn about the people and culture of North East India.

Just in case my CouchSurfing space is full, I can provide you with Bed & Breakfast at one of the first Travelers' Hostels in Guwahati for just Rs 350 per person. This is for emergencies though.

If you want to travel to Arunachal Pradesh, do let me know. I can arrange a stay for up to 8 people in Shergaon, one of the most beautiful places. You can go for trekking, hiking, fishing, camping in the jungles, bird watching, etc.

(More at www.oknortheast.com)

Oh, by the way, you'll require a permit to travel to certain areas (states) of Northeast India. This link might be helpful in making your travel plans - http://www.oknortheast.com/p/permits-for-north-east-indian-states.html
