About Me

Hi everyone!

Ich bin Negin / Aš esu Nygyn / Soy Neguin / navê min Negîne / Ман Негин ҳастам / 我叫'娜金'.

Curious about people, cultures, and different ways of life, I usually enjoy spending time in nature, preferably far from the traffic and noise of the city and occasionally I go on a city-wild phase as well.

Just to get it out of the way, yes I do drink alcohol and eat pork. No, I'm not vegetarian or vegan. I have nothing against the people who are. Since it is important for some first interactions to some people and I just happen to be asked a lot about it so figured it's better to mention it here.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Meeting local poeple tells you about a true soul of a city and country. As long as you have nice people to travel or explore with, destination doesn't matter!

There was a time when I was obsessed with ticking the list of countries I travel to, but I have realized that's not for me. So I travel to places to truely enjoy myself and immerse in an experience. Yeah marking the visited country on the world's map is a satisfying feeling, I'm not gonna lie, but I want to go there because I want to go THERE :)

Interests

Languages and casual easy hiking to talk are currently the things I linger on the most. I love hanging out with people and talking about my interests and sharing my perspective of life. Sometimes I also get bored of doing or talking about them so yeah they are the things that get me excited normally but I'm not necessarily good at them.

Can't climb, whether a mountain, or a bouldering wall. Living with Iranians I have tried mountains and having German friends I tried bouldering. I just can't. My lungs are super weak and this doesn't really help when trying to be instensively strong and change altitude. Maybe in a few years again, but for now, lying on a blanket under the sun in the woods works.

When visiting a city I prefer to walk around, get to know people and find new friends, try the local food and stay with local people. I will pay a visit to some classics maybe, but people are the most interesting part of traveling for me. Chilling nature is my happy place and if I can go on a smooth hike in the nature, I'd prefer that to visiting a museum. (Update: Denmark changed my whole idea about Museums!) For a visit, always open to new things!

I have worked as an interpreter for refugees and the stories I translated and the conversations I mediated really stuck wih me somehow, I want to pursue something in that matter and be able to help more.

You can count on me as an amateur singer to sing along or sing songs of my country for you. ;)

Music, Movies, and Books

I watch series more than movies thanks to my attention span after lockdowns. However I absolutely love going to the cinema, usually alone. I also love watching Richard Linklater films and movies like Frances Ha, Lost in Translation, Captain Fantastic and Nomadland.

My music taste is fluid and changes a lot over time. I think I listen to everything except for metal :D

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Women are not legally allowed to sing solo in Iran. In 2018 I sang in one of the most beautiful mosques of the world (Sheikh Lotfollah in Isfahan). I felt my absolute best.

And, after moving to Europe, I joined a Lithuanian choir to sing! Finally publicly, with out fear. Only this time everything was in Lithuanian :D but I managed and participated in the concert. I can't really sing from the music sheet since I didn't get the education but I try :)

I defeated a long, hard Covid in hospital before the vaccination era. I'm not kidding. I was going to die.

I took my dad CouchSurfing with me once and it was amazing!

Teach, Learn, Share

Learning never ends, there's always something new to explore. I'm still at the beginning of the path to be a professional, do-it-all traveler so I would love it if you could share your tips and experinces.

I'm down for any new activities if my physique doesn't reject them, especially exciting sport stuff that I haven't tried.

I got my PADI certificate and if you're a diver then let's hit the water together sometime! (Update: Please take me! I forgot all my trainings already)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Hopefully lots of conversation. Unfortunately I'm no cook but I can tell you all about our culture. My friends say I'm obsessed with being tidy and you can even ask me to help you declutter and reorganize your wardrobes! I'm a fan of 'Swedish Death Cleaning' as a concept, look it up if it sounds interesting to you :)
