About Me

Hi! I'm an architect from South Africa. I love to meet new people, play Dungeons and Dragons, write and read fantasy and scifi, and I like to learn about other cultures!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

They say you haven't experienced a place until you've lived like a local, and that is exactly what I intend to do. CouchSurfing provides that insight into the community your visiting that tour guides tend to skip. And on the reverse, I hope to provide that insight for my guests as well. I’ve wanted to host for many years, but only recently have I become able to do so.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Indie, Folk, Rock and Alternative. But I'll listen to almost anything.
Books: Catch 22, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Catcher in the Rye, Lord of the Flies, and any book by Roald Dahl. Currently working my way through the Discworld, by order of release.
Movies: Star wars and Lord of the rings? Scifi and fantasy draws me like a moth to a candle.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

On 23 December 2013, along with my Parents and two siblings, I walked along a rickety steel walkway, right into the centre of a bridge. With traffic passing on a concrete road above and a ravine 215m (705Ft) deep stretching out before me. Then I jumped. I immediately regretted my decision, but oh my, what an experience. Just falling. Falling ever downwards. And slowly the cord stretches out, dragging you by your feet to a halt, then recoiling up again. Yes, I bungee jumped the highest commercial Bungee jump in the world, Bloukrans.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach Judo (very basic aspects), and I would love to learn Japanese one day.

And in terms of sharing? I love to share stories, facts, opinions and anecdotes. I am also rather skilled at a braai (South African, Open Flame barbecue).

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories and strange tales from Africa and everywhere I've been! I've travelled extensively in Europe and have met incredible people along the way.

I clean up after myself, and I am a natural introvert. I have no problem entertaining myself and keeping myself occupied. I'm not one for loud music or noisy events, but I do know how to have a good time, and especially love having a drink with my friends.

I am very very keen on stimulating conversation, and I have interest in a wide range of topics such as philosophy, ethics, and morality. I have some interest or basic knowledge (sometimes one or two facts, sometimes a lot more) of Anatomy, Anthropology, Beer Making, Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Cheese Making, Distilling, DIY, Furniture Making, World History, Jewelry Making, Linguistics, Logic, Magnetism, Material Properties, Mythology, Sociology, Sustainable Living, Tiny Living, Theory of Blacksmithing, Woodworking and Zoology, to name but a few.
