About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel in between being tempted to buy another classic car or something similar.

ABOUT ME

I live alone and I have been retired for 10 years. I have been travelling for 3 or 6 months each year since then. I enjoy being a handy man, tinkering with my classic car or some other project. Photography and socialising. There is so much more to me than this but I won't go on. You should be able to get a picture from my words and those of my guests.

PHILOSOPHY

Treat others as you should be treated. Making opportunities to help people, especially those of kindred interest creates intense satisfaction.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I volunteer some of my time assisting people in the community. I seldom sit still for long and I am fortunate enough to have the freedom to keep busy doing what I like to do which includes hosting Couchsurfers when I can

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My son who is widely travelled, likes Couchsurfing and has hosted couchsurfers while in Europe. I joined in 2009 and now I have had quite a few Couchsurfing guests. The experience has been very worthwhile. I am still in touch with several of my former guests. The gaps in my hosting has been because I have been travelling and because I hosted a young lady from China for 3 months. All my experiences have been very positive.

Interests

Besides travelling I like to do practical (boring) things like maintain my own house and garden. I am also a motorcyclist and restore and maintain my classic cars that I have owned since I was 20 years old. I am keen on photography and I have several friends around Adelaide who have migrated to Australia from other cultures.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like most music except heavy rock. I really like orchestral classics and attended a performance of Handel's Messiah this Christmas. I have developed a liking for European films of late. I am finding there are less films to my liking these days and I keep a lookout for period films. I am interested in travel and I have a huge number of Lonely Planet type books. I am currently reading books on China.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have been a Peacekeeper for the United Nations twice in East Timor and that is a highlight in my life besides the travelling I have done.

Teach, Learn, Share

Yes, Couchsurfing can be so much better when there is a true 'exchange' between host and guests. That has been my experience so far and I really enjoy sharing and hearing about life experiences.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I know Adelaide very well and I am often available to show guests around.
