About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To meet every single person on the planet
ABOUT ME
Hi I'm Karl, teacher, programmer, human (I think). I have a great interest in different worldwide cultures, and feel that couchsurfing and hosting is a superb way to experience those cultures in a way which is often denied to conventional travellers.
So here I am!
PHILOSOPHY
If it harms no-one, do as you will.
I've often felt that the rules society imposes on us are pointless and limit our potential as human beings.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Happy to have people stay, teach them a few things, learn a few things more, visit people, repeat.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I had one person come and stay with me this summer and it was the most fun I've ever had in my hometown. I got to experience the town in a way I naver have befre!
Interests
I've always been a bookworm; I love sci-fi, fantasy, revisionist histories and horror. I also love films but I rarely settle for mediocre movies - they either need to be really good or really awful for me to enjoy them!
I play guitar and sing, sometimes busk. I'm the vocalist in Stafford based hardcore act Trespasser.
I also like spinning poi (both streamer and fire), twirling staffs, and dancing. Oh goddess do I love dancing. And painting. But mostly dancing.

Music, Movies, and Books
Favourite book is probably Neuromancer by William Gibson. I also enjoy Tom Holt, Alastair Reynolds, Noam Chomsky and a bunch of others - but I'm always on the lookout for new experiences.
Movies.... I like films which are difficult to watch, or require some input from the viewer. Primer, Pi, Requiem For a Dream, and everything David Lynch ever did... But as with books, I need new things in my life so I'm always interested in experimental cinema
Music... Well I'm a big fan of industrial, folk, electronica, and any interesting fusion of genres. I like to hear stuff which has never been tried before
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Christmas before last I drove to Switzerland with no passport, no money and no change of clothes on a whim. People said it couldn't be done, but me and my two companions successfully blagged our way past two border controls, into a hostel, through a bar and back into the UK with nothing but the shirts on our backs. It was the most memorable adventure in my life to date.... but I hope for plenty more to come.
Teach, Learn, Share
Well I teach computer science by profession, so I can usually help people out with tech stuff. I can play a bit of guitar and I used to teach sho-to-kan karate... I also used to do pro wrestling... So I guess there's a lot I could teach, but maybe not all of it of practical value.
