About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to wander and wonder

ABOUT ME

I am a native Louisianan. I just returned to New Orleans after living Spain this past year, where I taught ESL to teenagers in a small Spanish pueblo outside of Santiago de Compostela.

PHILOSOPHY

I suppose my personal philosophy could more or less be summed up by a quote from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein:

"I have often attributed my attachment to, my passionate enthusiasm for, the dangerous mysteries of the ocean, to that production of the most imaginative of modern poets. There is something at work in my soul which I do not understand. I am practically industrious--painstaking;-- a workman to execute with perseverance and labour:--but besides this, there is a love for the marvellous, a belief in the marvellous, intertwined in all my projects, which hurries me out of the common pathways of men, even to the wild sea and unvisited regions I am about to explore."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

The first year I lived in Spain, I Couchsurfed with a few people and had a fantastic time! Afterwards, I moved back to New Orleans and hosted people from all over the world with my roommate.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: I love to read! Leaves of Grass, the poetry of Anne Sexton, Ulysses by James Joyce, Frankenstein, Flowers for Algernon, The Color Purple by Alice Walker, Ulysses by James Joyce, His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman, Valencia by Michelle Tea, etc etc etc...

Movies: Children of Men, El laberinto del fauno, Jesus Camp, American Beauty, Short Bus, The Lion King, Lost in Translation, Y tu mamá también, Frida

Music: As far as music goes, I like most types of music--folk and reggae, hard rock and jazz, flamenco and classical, etc,. etc,. I'm open to pretty much anything, but I do not like country music. Rihanna is a guilty pleasure.

Watching fireworks at the Berlin Wall (well, its remnants) on New Years.

And watching a moonrise in the Sahara desert.
