Overview
About Me
Hi, my name is Martin. I am a geographer, working in Water Research Institute and doing PhD at Masaryk University (both in Brno). I was born and grew up in an ancient town called Opava. Despite the fact I have been studying and working in Brno for several years, my roots have stayed anchored in here. :-) I started getting to know the surrounding world thanks to my parents since they took me to the nature, we went cross country skiing, cycling etc. From the early childhood, I liked staying in the nature. I was amazed by hills, forests and mountains, water in rivers, changes of weather or snow. One of the most important points of turn happened at the age of 8 when I got an atlas of the World with a lot of illustrations from my grandma by Christmas. These all things determined what I have been doing now. :-)
During my high schoold studies I started travelling on my own. At the beginning to the close surroundings. Later, especially at the University, I started making trips to more distant and exotic areas. And I have been looking forward to the upcomming journeys. :-)
Some people don't understand why I do the travelling. Nevertheless, for me, the travelling is one of the most enriching things. It makes sense to me seeing how people live in different areas, what values they believe in. It makes sense to me to discover how beautiful our 'little blue dot in the Universe' is. It is such a joy to loose a prejudice I may have had, based on media or someone's opinions!
It is quite hard for me to say something about myself. It would be better for you to ask my friends and relatives. :-) But if I remember well, they say I am friendly, talkative (sometimes too much :-) ), I am trying to share as much as I can. I like meeting new people and making friends. One of my hobbies is cooking (I can prepare something for you - if you are brave enough, feel free to taste :-D ) and even more eating and trying new unknown cuisines. :-) Since I come from the Czech republic, I love beer. If you want to try some, I can recommend you my favourite brands. :-)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Couchsurfing is a perfect project which enables me to get to know world from a different point of view. Travelling with doing couchsurfing is totally different from the the one with staying at hotels. Couchsurfing gives you great opportunity to "taste" the country you are in. It enables you at least to try to live the life as locals do. And what is the most important thing? I can meet so many great people thanks to couchsurfing. On the other hand I like that I can help someone by providing my couch or at least guiding at places which are familiar to me. :-)
