ABOUT ME

Can someone else write this...??
Ummm...Outdoors type, not good with crowds (unless it's a pub with no cancer stick smoke), love bushwalking(tramping, hiking) kayaking, canoeing, canyoning, abseiling, cycling, all that stuff.
Piper in a Bagpipe Band. (It makes up for my quietness!)
Used to be heavily involved in scouting including the local Scout Water Base where I occasionally assisted with teaching scouts all there is to know about canoeing & canoe journeys.
Enjoy most beers; wine (esp red...)should be had with every dinner! Cooking can be fun!

PHILOSOPHY

Be nice to people (uproarious laughter coming from my kid's domain downstairs!!)
Be nice to the environment. That actually comes first because the environment is heaps more important than people. Too many of them want to wreck it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Local knowledge is absolutely priceless.
I've seen areas & had amazing experiences I wouldn't have thought of thanks to fellow couchsurfers - definitely not found on Lonely Planet, etc.
I am of course more than happy to advise fellow Couchsurfers on my area - Sydney's Northern Beaches & other areas.
I love to learn from sharing other people's experiences through discussion while out on a walk, relaxing over a meal.
Found CS thru reading some travel thing in the local paper years ago so thought I'd check it out.
Working all weird hours so unfortunately can't host. More than happy to meet up, advise what to see & do though.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

When in Rovers (scouts 18yrs - 26yrs) we did "couch surfing" all the time, esp after Moots (gathering of Rovers from District to International). But that was thru Scouting links, not Internet. Internet wasn't around then!
Had fantastic CS time in Scotland after I participated in the Worlds Pipes & Drums Championships in Glasgow 2008.
When travelling in Australia I prefer to camp.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music, depends on my mood. Enjoy pretty well anything from Classical (not really into Opera) to Jazz to today's contemporary music. Strongly dislike agressive violent RAP stuff (way too much aggression in this world) & mindless poorly written commercial oooooze music!
http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/ (also double j; unearthed; classic fm, jazz)

Folk Festivals (Cygnet in Tassie is terrific)

Movies, never get a chance!
Books: Tom Sharpe, Tolkein, Harry Potter, Donald Jack, Paul Burke, Elizabeth Peters,

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Always - walking out into the wonderful wilderness away from all signs of civilisation, looking out at the magnificent seemingly endless scenery & realising what a fantastic planet this is, & I'm just one minuscule spec of it.
Love it.
Very therapeutic.

Teach, Learn, Share

Scouting, Camping, Bagpipes (well, I'm only Grade 4...so literally beginners stuff only!)
Maybe some Adobe Lightroom. Photoshop perhaps - used to be my profession but been out of touch for 10years now!!

Always happy to learn how to be a better person. Lots to learn there!
I love learning from other peoples experiences, be they good or bad.

More than happy to share my local knowledge with any visitors. We can go for a walk, a kayak, cycling, maybe even camping if time permits.
