ABOUT ME
As it's a joint profile for my wife and me, I'll make a short description about the two of us. Ladies first, of course:
Carolina lived most of her life in Nicaragua, her country of birth and education. She grew up during the revolution and economic blockade, experiences I can't imagine.
Some of her attributes that spring to mind are: talkative, direct, honest, hard-working, compassionate. She loves sports and food, has great enthusiasm for football (unlike me), can dance godlike, likes to sing although she can't. Prefers old people to small children (don't ask me)
After falling in love while I was doing a year of something akin to peace-corps in Nicaragua, another year of long-distance relationship, she moved to Austria to stay with me and do a PhD in Telecommunications at the Tech. U. Wien. It's not easy being a foreigner in Austria, and getting to know nice and interesting people, so we really look forward to this new opportunity here.
About me... I guess I'm a halfway decent person, with usual likes and dislikes, so I'll just concentrate on peculiarities.
Although born and raised in Austria, I've always preferred being in other countries than my own. I even prefer talking English and now Spanish to my own mother language.
I firmly wish to live in Nicaragua someday, maybe owning a business. I'm not afraid to embarrass and laugh about myself. I'm interested in technology and what's going on in the world, an avid reader of primarily newspapers, sci-fi and fantasy literature. Times and again I find myself reading more serious lit, such as philosophy or non-theist spirituality. (In these days more wishful thinking than reality...) More interesting than my normal fare, but more taxing.
I did martial arts for most of my life, a little of judo, karate, more tae-kwon do and now, after 3 years of doing nothing, I'm quite happy with capoeira. I love the quirkiness of japanese worldviews, both medieval and current.

Music, Movies, and Books
A few movies which left an impression or were simply enjoyable: 12 Angry men, Matrix, Man from Earth, Persepolis, Waltz with Bashir, The Dark Knight, Matrix, The Notebook, I am Sam, Shawshank Redemption
My music interests encompass a broad range of genres. Easier to say what I don't like. Techno, hard rock, metal, noise, industrial, Drum and bass and related.
Some songs I love are: Cantaloop (US3), Colour to the moon (Allan Taylor), Suite Pour Violoncelle N1 - Prelude (Bach) etc.
Books are great. I read much, though I plan to reduce in quantity in favor of quality. A recent highlight was a collection of short stories by Ted Chiang.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Lived a little more than one year in a small, poor fishing village on the coast of Nicaragua.
Teach, Learn, Share
Anybody interested in Calculus? If not, I'd share some cooking recipes or do some acrobatics with you :) Anybody wanting to chat in German, English and/or Spanish is welcome too.
I'm pretty much happy to learn anything someone else deems worthwhile.
