ABOUT ME

I have two X chromosomes (confirmed by DNA test :D), a 45 lb (20 kg) possible Blue Heeler mix named Nebula, an 11 lb (5 kg) cat named Juan Pounce de León, and a sweet-as-pie husband (200 lb/91 kg) named Dusty. We are ten year residents of Denver, and still learning about all the things the city has to offer. We moved out here with no set job, no place to live, but lots of hope and possibilities for adventure!

I am short (5'3.75"/1.6 m) and plump (I don't even want to guess my weight) but do enjoy regular walks and easy-to-moderate-difficulty hikes. I love exploring new cities, new neighborhoods, new folks. I lived in Florida the first 29 years of my life (other than three-month stints in Massachusetts and Minneapolis-St. Paul) until now.

As for work, I've been a hostess, server, grill cook, food expediter, receptionist, pizza delivery person, tutor, drug lab intern, retail sales associate, phone and tablet repair lady, bus operator, road supervisor for bus transit, and an HR manager. Currently I am a licensed nurse but not working as such yet.

I enjoy reading, hiking, couch potato-ing, cooking and baking. I am active with Secular Hub, a local community center for heathens of all stripes.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Well, I've been a host quite a few times and participated in CouchSurfing events in the greater Orlando and Twin Cities areas. I'd love to continue hosting and one day surf a few couches myself.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far I've had some great hosting experiences and look forward to many more. I love getting to know total strangers, fleetingly touching someone else's life and being touched in kind; not knowing if the universe will ever conspire to bring us together again. There's a kind of magic in it, I think. That said, my favorite aspect is probably sharing food. See my interests for more detail.

I enjoy food in a number of ways. First and foremost I enjoy tasting and eating it. I also enjoy baking and cooking. I even enjoy looking at it and smelling it. In summary, I love food. I don't like celery or mayonnaise, but I will try almost anything at least once. I am particularly fond of both seafood and pumpkin dishes. I can eat pizza every day and love it; indeed, I did so for about six months straight when I delivered it.
I admit I'm a bit (okay, a LOT) of a couch potato, in part due to my hectic work schedule. I have Netflix, Amazon Prime and HBO Now, so I take advantage and watch TV and movies all the time.

I also enjoy wine, beer, books, friendships, walking, hiking, games [Scrabble, Nintendo (Super Mario Bros 1/3, The Legend of Zelda, Dr. Mario), Cards Against Humanity, Settlers of Catan, Dixit, Skyrim, PS3 (Arkham City, Portal 2, Far Cry 3), etc.], window shopping and new perspectives.

I am involved in a local secular organization, Secular Hub, which is a community space for humanists/secularists/freethinkers/etc. I am a weekly movie screening attendee there.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

The Grand Canyon. I'm not gifted enough with words to paint an accurate word-picture, so enjoy the following unrelated anecdote instead:

While my husband and I were wandering the streets of Nashville one Halloween, dressed as Catholic school children with nothing in particular planned, we had a serendipitous encounter with Mario and Princess Peach. They were standing outside an arena having a smoke. As we approached, they greeted us with typical Southern ease and warmth.
After exchanging greetings, they asked, "Do you like Nine Inch Nails?"
"Sure. They've got some good songs," we replied.
"Oh, then you should come back in with us. We're at their concert right now. We're in a friend's skybox. What do you say?"
We didn't need much convincing to attend a free concert, so we joined them at the skybox. They plied us with free beer and catered food just to pile on the awesomeness of the gesture. The view of the crowd from above was particularly thrilling. I am short of stature and averse to feeling pain, so not a big fan of moshing in general, but I have to admit that mosh pits look pretty cool from on high.
Oh, and did I mention that Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban were two skyboxes away? That's the closest encounter I've ever had with an A-list celebrity.
The best part was just the feeling of letting the night unfold in surprising and delightful ways.
