About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To see a little bit more of this planet we all occupy, to be true to myself and my ideals, to give back as much as I take. Realistic? Maybe. Dreaming's a start.
ABOUT ME
The first name's Andrew, but everyone calls me by my middle one, Alex. 24 years ago, I was born. Last week, I tried Ethiopian and Ecuadorian cuisine for the first time. In between, some strange, interesting, and/or eventful things happened. Moving to Chicago has proved to be the best and most rewarding decision of my adult life. I love this city. Usually, I like the time I spend in it. I'm enormously grateful for the friends and cohorts I've made along the way, the patient people I share my home with, the kindred spirits and like-minded folk I've connected with since taking up residency in the Windy City. Couple years out of college and I'm still finding my way. I'm actually foolhardy enough to chase a career in writing-- specifically, in film criticism, which is about as lucrative these days as selling pagers and prepaid calling cards. I've only been out of the country twice, and neither trip to the Great White North required a passport. It's time to change all that.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
New to all this. Just looking to offer AND take advantage of an alternative to expensive hotels and hostels. If this is the wave of the future (and I really hope it is) I wanna ride that crest. Also, the idea of a whole community of international travelers opening their doors and hearts to one-another is downright utopian. I'm in.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Again, this is all brand spanking new to me. I've neither offered a couch nor occupied one. Let's change that. Hopefully this November in Paris.
Interests
I love movies. I love watching them, writing about them, reading about them, and talking about them. I do NOT love making them-- that was a fever I sweated out long ago. Some other things I unapologetically adore: running, Lake Michigan, various cheeses, Crazy Taxi, Chinese buffets, summer rock festivals, getting lost in big cities, mini-golf, and dogs. I fancy myself a cynic, but have alternately been described a naive idealist and a romantic sap. I want to believe in time travel. Feel like you know me yet?
