About Me

2021
**a friend and I are renovating a van I bought on the road and we are looking for a place to fix it up for a few days. We are quite flexible - we have a tent!**

Heyo! After graduating university I travelled for a couple years and was hooked to traveling. Now I'm beginning a new stage of life - I've been working in the offshore wind industry for the past year helping the world make the transition to low-carbon energy. In order to make travel more accessible while working, I am renovating a van to live in... so everyday is an adventure!

Hi, I'm Aaron! I am from a suburb of New York City. I went to college in upstate New York and studied economics and environmental studies. I'd like to generate solutions to environmental solutions such as climate change by using economics. I am traveling to learn about different cultures and myself, and to make some great memories :D

Let's get a beer or coffee! Or go dancing or relax in a park! Looking forward to meeting you.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

2021
Traveling taught me that people are generally good. My adventures were only possible through the kindness of others - whether it was a pleasant conversation, a ride, or a place to sleep. I like to understand the place I am visiting or living in - and getting to know the locals is one of the best ways to do it. I still travel - and Couchsurfing will help make the most of it. But I also see it as a way to give back to the traveling community - I want to make people who are traveling to feel at home. And it's a great way to travel without leaving home!

I hope this platform could facilitate connections on a personal and cultural level. Staying in hostels is fun, but living in someone's home allows me to learn about their hospitality and cultural norms. I love when locals show me around. Professional tour guides help to provide an overview of the place, but locals help expose the fine details of the place that make it what it is.

When I have the pleasure of hosting someone, I want to share the treasures of my community, and learn about where you come from.

Music, Movies, and Books

2021
Books/Essays:
Into the Wild inspired me to take more risks while traveling - and likely changed my life because of it.
The Places in Between - book about a Scottish man who walked across Afghanistan in the early 2000s.
Walden and Civil Disobedience

Let me get back to you with more... let's discuss this more when we meet!

I tend to let Spotify tell me what to listen to, but I enjoy pop, hip-hop, classic rock. Perhaps you could provide some suggestions?

I like to read the New York Times because it is generally trustworthy, and reports on a variety of topics. I read whatever is on my Facebook newsfeed, but I try to avoid spending a lot of time there.

I watch whatever is on Netflix! I like to watch movies to relax occasionally, but I tend to refrain from it. I'm currently watching Shameless, a comedy about an impoverished family in Chicago.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

2021
Many of the coolest adventures were when I was traveling. I slept in parks in cold weather for awhile and it really proved my grit. I then mustered the courage to hitch hike from Belgrade to Istanbul - I feel like I can do anything after that!

August 2018
I met with my Members of Congress multiple times to urge them to pass a carbon tax to reduce carbon emissions. Considering all of the problems the political system of the United States of America has, it is still amazing to have the privilege of participating in government. Many people do not have this same opportunity.

Teach, Learn, Share

There are many ways to live, and things can be learned about everyone.
Each person has to live their own life, don't live with regrets. Take a risk!

What do you think? How has your experience shaped who you are, and how does your worldview benefit humanity and individuals, and what are some of the drawbacks? What are some of the pleasures of living in your home? What do you appreciate the most, and what do you wish you had?

What I Can Share with Hosts

If you’d like, we could discuss my lifestyle in the United States, and I could suggest other ways to examine the experience of other people of my country. Ask me anything, I usually feel comfortable speaking about controversial topics or myself.

Countries I’ve Visited

Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, India, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Serbia, Slovenia, Sri Lanka, Turkey, United Kingdom
