About Me

I moved to London about six years ago to study Piano at music college, where I'm currently completing my postgrad degree. My life is currently a mix of rehearsing, gigging, practising and teaching - and I also write music when I get the time. For a musician, there is no such thing as work/life balance: work is life. Originally I'm from Jersey - a little island just off the coast of France - and I love the sea. I'm interested in life, I find that to be much more interesting than being interesting.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

People make places. My best experiences whilst visiting another country is when I've got to know it from the inside out with people who live there.

I will mainly be hosting whilst I'm still studying, but I plan to travelling more widely in the coming year.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Oh that's too hard! Some composers I love are Stravinsky, Gerald Barry, Bach, Messiaen, Ravel, Poulenc... the list continues. I have a soft spot for so-bad-it's-good music (...or, should-I-be-liking-this? music).

Movies: I am a casual movie viewer, but some that come to mind are 'Mulholland Drive', 'Marvellous', 'American Beauty'. Recently I have begun to cry at some movies, I think it's a good thing.

Books: 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest', 'Stravinsky's Conversations with Robert Craft', Bukowski short stories, any of Ottolenghi's cookbooks (does that count?!)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hmmm... I had a band when I was a teenager and we were once the support act for 'Status Quo' when they came to Jersey on tour, we played our hearts out to 1,000 or so middle-aged rockers.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would love to learn recipes from all over the world - I'll happily share some of my favourites!

I am (trying!) to learn French currently, so any help and conversation practise would be appreciated, I can offer the same in English.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I don't have a piano in my flat, so I can't give you a little piano lesson I'm afraid! But I would love to talk about music, share what I like and hear what you like, introduce each other to new things. I have a ukulele, guitar and other instruments we could jam on!

And of course, showing you round, recommending places and drinking pints in nice pubs.
