Hello! I'm an American Peace Corps Volunteer living in Chongoene, Mozambique near the provincial capital Xai-xai. I'm in Peace Corps' Education Sector, so my primary project is teaching biology at the secondary school here in Chongoene. I love science, baseball, religion, and language, and I really enjoy meeting new people and learning about just about anything. I started learning Portuguese when I arrived in Mozambique in September 2016 (I have to give all my classes in Portuguese), and I've started trying to learn the local Bantu language Tsonga, or Xangana as they call it here. I love it here in Mozambique but I also really want to travel to other parts of the world too.

Olá! Sou um Voluntário Americano do Corpo da Paz, e estou a viver em Chongoene, Moçambique perto da capital provincial Xai-xai. Sou Voluntário do Sector da Educação, então dou aulas da biologia na escola secundária como projecto primário. Adoro a ciência, o baseball, a religião, e a linguística, e gosto muito de conhecer novas pessoas e aprender sobre qualquer subjecto. Comecei aprender português quando cheguei cá em Moçambique em setembro de 2016 (é preciso dar aulas em português) e acabo de começar aprender Changana, a língua bantu local também. Gosto muito de Moçambique mas também quero conhecer outras partes do mundo.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

After coming to Mozambique I'm planning on travelling a lot more now, so I'm hoping to get to stay with some cool local people. But also if anyone wants to stay in my two bedroom block house on school property with no bed, no running water, and a hole in the ground for a toilet, you're more than welcome!

Music, Movies, and Books

I like most kinds of music, but I think my favorite is folk, especially Bob Dylan and Simon & Garfunkel. Some of my favorite movies are Lord of the Rings, Jeremiah Johnson, Inglorious Basterds, and The Good the Bad and the Ugly. I like to read very old books, like Dante, Plato, or Milton. I'm also a big fan of C. S. Lewis.

I got scuba certified right here in Mozambique, at Závora, just a few hours from Chongoene.
