About Me

Hi I'm Aaron.

I'm a 28 year old Australian who is currently travelling around Europe with my girlfriend Kimberly. We're doing a mix of backpacking, housesitting, and hopefully couchsurfing. I did a little bit of couchsurfing while travelling around South America on a previous trip and had a great time, plus i got to meet some really cool people, so hopefully this time will be even better! plus this time I'm travelling with my girlfriend Kimberly, so you'll get to meet both of us.

We both worked at Universities back home, but having talked about setting off for a while we finally bought a couple of one way flights in April 2018 and set off with our backpacks and each other. So hopefully we'll have a few good stories to share about our journey by the time we reach you.

Cooking, and food in general, is something that I love. So it would be great to share a meal at your favourite local restaurant. Or even better, we could cook some food together. We also love to get outdoors, (Kimberly is an ecologist) so we're hoping to see some of Europe's natural beauty as well and do a fair bit of hiking if we can.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It's a great way to meet people who you otherwise might never get to meet, It's also a great way to see a city in a way that most tourists don't get to see, which is what I love about it.

It's also a great way of breaking down barriers. Inviting a stranger into your home and sharing a meal with them is something that I think shows the best qualities of humans, it's a fantastic way making the world a bit more tolerant and interesting, bit by bit.

I did a big trip through the Americas previously and was lucky enough to meet some great people. Eating a great steak in Buenos Aires with Emi and her friends. Sitting around a campfire with Taemin in Florida. Partying on the Streets in Cuiba, Brazil with Victor. Going to a local football game in Florida, these ended up being some of my best memories of of that trip.

Hopefully Europe can be just as good :)

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to most kinds of music, usually indie/alternative is my favourite, but I listen to a bunch of different stuff including folk, rap/hip hop, jazz, blues rock and most others too. Some of my favourite bands are Arctic Monkeys, Glass animals, Art of sleeping, Foals, Big scary

I like to read too, but don't do it as often as I'd like. I generally read a lot more while I travel which is bonus. I read most styles of books and I'm definitely not a book snob, I usually am limited by what's available at the book exchange at hostels I go to haha. Some of my favourites are Wool, The book thief, We need to talk about Kevin,

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I jumped off the 20 metre waterfall at semuc champey, guatemala!

Hiking through the Andes in South america, including summiting a mountain in Bolivia which was 6088m high

I went to the 2014 football world cup in Brazil (I also Couchsurfed with Brazilians too which made it even better!)

Teach, Learn, Share

We love cooking and would happily whip something up in the kitchen while we're staying with you. I think food is a big part of culture and it probably the thing I look forward to most when travelling to a new place so we'd love to be able to learn a bit about your local cuisine while we stay.

I have a background in exercise science and kimberly is an ecologist, so they are quite niche skills but we'd be happy to teach you about them while we're around
