Overview
About Me
My name is Aaron, I'm a musician who grew up in Buffalo, New York. I studied music education and got my Bachelor's Degree from SUNY College at Potsdam. After a few years of teaching, I moved to Renton, Washington - just outside of Seattle - to complete a training program in instrument repair technology.
Music is really my everything. It has been since I was a child. I've always wanted to be a teacher and a performer, and most recently I've started a career as an Instrument Repair Technician, learning the inner workings of each individual instrument. The job is immensely rewarding - helping ensure the maintenance and care of instruments from young learners through professionals, and helping their instruments perform to the highest caliber is a really exciting and meaningful experience to me.
Above all, I'm a city person. I love the pace, the feel, the bustle of a metropolis. Smaller cities - like my hometown of Buffalo - are so interesting to me, but I love witnessing and experiencing new and different places, people, and ways of life.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm on Couchsurfing to share new experiences and meet new people. I don't travel entirely too often, but when I do, I prefer to meet new people and learn about different cities through the people who live there. It's so much more interesting than staying in a hotel and knowing so little about everything that surrounds you!
Interests
Music is my number one passion. I'm a performer, composer, improviser, listener, and forever a student. My most recent endeavor is in Band Instrument Repair, learning all the inner workings of each instrument.
I also love bicycling, running, walking, wandering, being outside - especially in new places.
Movies. NPR. Dinosaurs. Tattoos. Eyeglasses. Beer and Whiskey. Writing. The beach. The woods. The city.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Jazz, classical, indie, folk, punk, rock, postmodern, abstract & avant-garde...my favorite bands include Dirty Projectors, Real Estate, and The National. I'm fascinated by minimalism and I love works by Steve Reich, Philip Glass, and bands like Earth, Sigur Ros, and A Silver Mount Zion.
Movies: I really enjoy every movie Wes Anderson has made (The Royal Tenenbaums is my favorite).
Books: I enjoy nonfiction - from writings on music like The Rest Is Noise and Musicophilia, to thoughtful reads like The Inner Game of Tennis, You Are Here, Anger... I also love fiction writing from the 1920s, like Hemingway and Fitzgerald.

Teach, Learn, Share
I'd love to have a conversation about music, arts, and education.
I'm really big on making lasting connections. Make connections and never forget the people you stay with - you never know the next time that connection may cross.
