About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To learn to cook.

ABOUT ME

A cursed third culture kid all. Grew up in Warsaw, Tunis, Washington D.C., Cairo and Dubai. The moment I had a free year to myself I landed a teaching gig in Suzhou, China. Now I'm back in the US, unemployed living in a big empty house in Boston.

PHILOSOPHY

I live my life for romance and adventure, as trite as that may seem. If I ever had the skill or the motivation, I'd write a kick ass novel. But lacking the two, I instead hope to live as novel-esque a life as possible. Filled with danger and intrigue and witty repartee, or at least the latter.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Of the 6 billion people currently alive, I know precious few. I hope to increase that ratio by any means.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had a great experience hosting and couch surfing in China last year.

Interests

Music and physics, mostly. I used to work on the MINERvA project for Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, now I teach the science. I write pop songs in my spare time and have started a collective at song-swap.com (do visit!). I'm mostly interested in filling the rest of my time with adventure.

Music, Movies, and Books

Prince really begins and ends it for me. David Bowie, the Talking Heads, Iggy Pop and the like as well. Mostly glammy, gay sort of over the top bravado. I hate music that is submissive in any way.
As for books: Hemingway is a recent favorite. Though I must admit my favors lie in the science fiction camp, with Pelevin and Lem and Asimov of course, not to mention a tangent of Vonnegut. Mostly things that concern their subject matter over their style of writing.
The transcendentalists can go to hell.
I have some feelings about movies too, but they're not important.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My second night in Sanaa, Yemen I went outside to the look at the signs. An elderly man named Ahmed Ali grabbed me by the hand (literally) and toured me around the city. Not speaking a word of English (and I had basically no Arabic at the time) he told me of his family, his friends and his life. Then he invited me over for dinner.
Perhaps not the most amazing, but what comes to mind this instant, for some reason.

Teach, Learn, Share

As a (former) physics teacher, I spend a significant deal of time pondering the fringes of human understanding. I don't know a great deal about, yet can communicate my knowledge on things such as string theory, relativity, hyper-dimensionality and the nature of time.
On a more practical note, I am very handy with electronics and basic mechanics. I'll fix your coffee maker.
