About Me

Howdy! My name is Beth and I've been living in Austin, TX for about 10 years. Some of my passions include sustainability, minimalism, co-operative housing, human rights, world cultures, cinema, and conversation :)

I have quite a bit of experience living with (and learning from!) others. I spent 7 years in housing co-ops, and now live in a house with my boyfriend and one other couple. My dream is to eventually live in a tiny house on a family members' property and host couchsurfers from time-to-time :)

As for work, I started my career in the film industry. I was the personal assistant to film director Terrence Malick for a time until I switched to the non-profit sphere. I was first the program coordinator for Texas 4000, the longest charity bike ride in the world, and now manage operations for a non-profit focused on child health.

Note: During the summer of 2014, this Couchsurfing profile was shared between myself and my twin sister, Laura, during our 3-month backpacking trip around Europe. (Feel free to check out our blog from that trip: www.aavangsabroad.wordpress.com).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I stayed with many couchsurfing hosts during a backpacking trip across Europe in the summer of 2014, and they were the best part of my trip. I fell in love with this kind of travel and cultural exchange, and I hope to Couchsurf for years to come :)

I'll add one quote which conveys why I love to travel and meet all kinds of people:

"…these images, apart from anything else will help you put the two and twos of life together, and the more images your mind retains, the more wonderful will be the star-studded canopy of experience beneath which you, poor primitive creature that you are, will shelter: the nearer you will creep to the great blazing beacon of the Idea which animates us all.”
