About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To Meet Kind People and Shower Them with Baked Goods

ABOUT ME

Abbey is born and raised Mainer. Curtis is from Southern California. We've settled in a small paper mill town in the Western Maine Mountains and are renovating a beautiful old home which had not been lived in for many years. We dove into Extreme Parenting and have five beautiful youngsters who keep us somewhat tethered but we love the idea of hosting people who are interested in seeing the beauty of the the Western Maine Mountains or seeing what a real mill town is like. (There's also some pretty good skiing around here.)

If you want to really get a picture of the family and house, check out the wife's blog at: http://mainericefamily.blogspot.com/ (though it's not been updated in a loooong time!)

PHILOSOPHY

Treat others as you would want to be treated.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Making our home available to kind travelers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We've enjoyed several groups of couchsurfers passing through western Maine. With five kids we don't travel as much as we used to and its a good way to vicariously experience the world.

Interests

We both love history, shabby antiques, etc. We bought an old unique house for a steal in a turn of the century papermill boomtown now greatly reduced in population but full of beautiful architectural treasures. Abbey loves to cook and run (half marathon is her longest distance yet) and make people feel all warm inside. Curtis likes helping people with their legal problems and trying to figure out what makes them tick. We've collectively travelled to Japan, Canada, Mexico, Italy, France, Morocco, Scotland, Wales, England, Ireland, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Turkey, Switzerland, Belgium, Russia, Ukraine, Spain, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia. We've both enjoyed some time on the playa at Burningman.

Music, Movies, and Books

Abbey: A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Harry Potter, Jane Eyre, Sherlock, 30 Rock, Pride and Prejudice, cooking shows

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Helped pull a pig from the mouth of an 18 foot python while wearing turquoise bikini briefs (Curtis). Went paragliding off the Austrian alps (Abbey).

Teach, Learn, Share

Abbey loves to sew, bake, blog and make comfort foods. Curtis loves history, can give pretty good legal advice to people accused of crimes or fighting over their children and can go on forever about anything World War II related. He has also learned quite a bit about home repair and electrical work.
