About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Exploring and Experiencing

ABOUT ME

I grew up in Iowa, recently spent a few years in St. Louis, and am now starting a PhD in Behavior Analysis in Omaha, NE. Before that, I worked in education and public health in St. Louis and Japan, did non-profit work in DC, and before that, press and organizing work on campaigns in Iowa. Snuck in there was a perfect short summer waitressing in Seattle. Adam, my partner in adventure and marriage, is a teacher, and will also be your host here in Nebraska.

PHILOSOPHY

I try to find and have rewarding experiences with great people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've had a great time hosting and staying with hosts. My husband and I surfed in Singapore and it was one of the highlights of our trip. In a small town in Thailand we ran into the Couchsurfing collective at what I think was the best pool in the world. Since being back in the states, we haven't been able to until now, but we did have a really nice surf in Salida, CO. It's my favorite way to travel. I'm thrilled if it can also help out other people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It`s been great.

Interests

A lot. Lately I've been cooking like a mad woman. The current project is learning how to make bread. I love to read books and news, watch dance and theatre, college basketball, all sports in general. I also like to do almost all sports, except horse back riding, down hill skiing, and scuba diving. Perfect days off are going to museums and sitting in cafes with my journal.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm almost always reading novels or newspapers or the New Yorker, but my free reading time has diminished significantly in grad school. Recent best movies have been Much Ado About Nothing and DJango. TV shows for the past many years have been so great. Favorites include the Wire, Sopranos, Buffy (!; just discovered it), and Friday Night Lights.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent a morning kicking and punching a few Thai boxers at an outdoor training center on the outskirts of a small Thai town.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm going to school to be a behavior analyst so that I can be a teacher of sorts. Teaching's a great way to constantly engage with learning.

Countries I’ve Visited

Ireland, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In
