About Me
Hi CS community! If you're looking to surf with me, please keep this in mind:
1) I do NOT accept generic requests. Your request should indicate that you read my profile and something that you think we could connect about, something you'd want to chat about, confirmation that my space will fit your needs, etc.
2) I do NOT accept requests from people with zero references. If you only have one reference, and that reference's only reference is you (a closed loop of references that doesn't branch out into the wider community), I also will not accept your request.
3) I usually do not accept requests from people who just want a place to crash and have no interest in getting to know each other. I believe that CouchSurfing is for "the friends you just haven't met yet" and expect my surfers to have a similar attitude.
All of that aside, if you have CouchSurfing values and would like to stay in our nice guest room in Decatur and have your own transportation, we would love to have you!
*ABOUT US*
I live with my husband, Shaun. I lived in a very rural town for six years before moving to Manhattan in 2020. I work in non-profit organizations doing program development. I led a bilingual leadership program for immigrant high school students, started an interfaith intentional living community for recent college graduates, started a youth philanthropy program, and more projects that really try to connect people to what matters most-- community and belonging. Shaun worked in finance for many years in NYC. We both quit our jobs in 2023 and spent six months traveling around the world and on a long road trip around the US in search of our long-term home... Atlanta felt so right as soon as we saw it that we decided to move here! Instagram about our travels: instagram.com/shabbyadventures ✈️ 🌎 (you'll need to request access)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I mean, this just makes so much sense for a healthy society. see my blog post about homestays here from way back in 2012 when I was still in college: http://estoesafrica.tumblr.com/post/23095193966/homestays-or-when-you-sleep-at-a-strangers-house
I am very proud to say that I've been a member since 2012, and Couchsurfing has truly changed my life. I've been fortunate to both surf and host many more times on a roommmate's profile or in old-fashioned ways not facilitated by this website, like meeting a cool family on a bus in Panama, or living in homestays during study abroad, or wanting to bring a group of teenagers to a social justice conference and not being able to afford a hotel so the conference organizers kindly set us up with their parents. I’m also very active in my local Buy Nothing community, which I think has some similar values. Genuinely, I think I would be a different person if I hadn't had these kinds of opportunities.
