About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to meet passionate people in unfamiliar places

ABOUT ME

I'm a student, primarily, although right now I'm feeling less of a pull towards academic institutions than learning from reading, from the street life, from seeing performances here in Prague. There's not enough time in the day. A handy notebook and a map are on me at all times, so I can quickly sketch what I see but can't take a picture of, write down Czech words I catch in overheard conversation. This morning was the first frost I've seen in Prague, and I'm hoping we get some of the snow I've heard makes the city look especially charming.

I am curious, curious, curious and want nothing more than to explore. I don't have a couch to offer (staying with a family here), but I will be as helpful as I can in Prague or, when I travel, an easygoing and independent guest who's pleased to find out what you have to say.

I only have a few weekends left in my semester abroad and I'm afraid I'm backloading travel, but schoolwork and a visiting friend shaped my schedule. I don't know when I'll be lucky enough to be on this side of the Atlantic again, so I'm setting my sights most strongly on Vienna, Munich, there's a chance of Budapest, and if by some great stroke of luck, Venice.

PHILOSOPHY

All the evidence suggests that everything changes. As difficult as it is and as marginally as I'm usually able to, I still try to keep that knowledge under my skin.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm just starting off, but from the couchsurfing experience I had in Berlin a few weeks ago and the many things close friends have told me, and what my goals are for travel in Europe for the next several months... this is a resource I need. I'm browsing around Prague's couchsurfing as well -- although I don't need a place to stay, I need to tap into new ways to meet Czechs. My limited grasp of the language means I don't strike up many conversations in grocery stores :)

As for the cities I want to travel to, couchsurfing opens the possibility of exactly the things I most hope for from travel -- a little immersion, insider tips, a view into a home, spontaneity, sharing experience.

Please host me if you're able, friends!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Once so far, with a lovely young woman in Berlin. Couchsurfing culture sounds like a wonderful idea I'd like to get involved in. I have just begun travelling in Europe, and I want to get in it -- overnight stays, meeting for coffee, etc. One of my best friends was in Budapest last year and couchsurfed incessantly, said it was the best thing she did there.

Interests

performances, dancing (all kinds), pedestrian cities, tree-climbing, writing about the arts (I spend a lot of time in journalism)-- being in new cities with native residents! Snacking. Finding out the names to things. Changing weather. Just doing it. Having snippets or long conversations with strangers. The nunnery next to my classroom. Biking in a new city. Long walks on the beach at sunset. Sorry if this reads like a personals ad, it didn't start that way. S'all right.
