About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Save the world, one wind turbine at a time.
ABOUT ME
I'm a happy-go-lucky fella with an easy sense of humour and an appreciation for . . . pretty much everything. I prefer wilderness to civilization, but occasionally break down and head to town just to see what all the fuss is about. I inevitably end up having a good time wherever I go.
PHILOSOPHY
"Twenty years from now, you'll regret the things that you didn't do far more than those that you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." Mr Twain said that pretty well, but I'll add to it that I find that life is far too short to be miserable.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
In any way possible! Couchsurfing my way through Europe was a blast, and then made it across Canada and back too! To me it's more about meeting the people and getting some local advice than it is about having a place to stay. I've got to convince my wife about this couchsurfing thing before I can jump back into hosting, but plans are underway for this!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
'Surfed my way across Europe for six weeks, and then from Northern Ontario to Vancouver and back in a three week span. Hosted for a while when I was living in Halifax, NS. Now I'm married and living in Cambridge, UK and still learning about what this city's got to offer. Hoping to open up my couch again soon.
Interests
Travel, self-discovery, adventure and friendship, though if you want to be more concrete about it, you can add things like: hiking, camping, cycling, kayaking, canoeing, football (Be it Rugby, Soccer or Gridiron, in that order), hockey, ultimate and pretty much any outdoor activity.

Music, Movies, and Books
Tolkien and pretty much anything like him are my favourite books. Though since I got married, my wife has gotten me started on intellectual non-fiction books that read like long form essays (They explain a central theme, like how there is not ONE cultural united states, but closer to 9. Fascinating stuff). For fiction, I love Tad Williams, am continuously impressed by Patrick Rothfuss and Naomi Novik is always a fun romp. I also have a bit of a man crush for genuine poets (Robert Service, Edgar Allen Poe and Robert Bly included). I will listen to absolutely any music, but my favourite is country mixed with a bit of rock. I am horribly far behind in my cultural education when it comes to movies, but the ones I like best are epic adventures (Think "Master and Commander") or have an interesting twist (Think "Fight Club").
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I kayaked from Chicago to St. Louis, does that count?
I've seen the midnight sun, that was pretty nifty.
Norway's Pulpit Rock blew my mind more than a little.
My wedding photos were taken inside the Montreal Metro (subway), will blow your mind, and may not have been strictly LEGAL . . .
I once slept outside when the temperature went down to minus 30 degrees Centigrade . . . I've jumped out of a plane, fought whitewater rapids and discovered that I need adventure in my life to keep me happy.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can survive in the wilderness, tie knots, recite poetry, discuss craft beer, build houses, outline quantum mechanics, introduce Canadian politics, teach canoeing, debate urban design and how it might save the world . . . I probably have any number of other skills that I could throw out there too, but they are escaping me at the moment. . .
What I Can Share with Hosts
A friendly and talkative attitude, an appreciation for life in all it's forms, a knowledge of people and the world and an open spirit to those different from myself. In short, an ability to bring adventure into almost everything.
