About Me
My name is James Davenport, I'm 31 and like most on here a keen traveller!!! At this moment in time I'm in Dortmund, Germany, having decided, foolishly, to try and bicycle around the world solo and self-funded, from the UK and back to the UK for charity, because... ¿Por Qué No?
I'm very keen on meeting people of all ages, backgrounds, races and religions and generally just like to be in a happy environment with positive people.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am on Couchsurfing because I am currently on an around the world, solo, self-assisted and 100% SELF-FUNDED, charity bicycle ride and may need occasional assistance with accommodation whilst on route.
For more information regarding the ride please check -http://www.abeardabikeandabucketlist.com/.
The aim of the ride is to raise sufficient money, £150,000, initially, so that I can help to set up a much needed sporting charity - "A Sporting Chance For All!" - in rural Cambodia. The intention of which is to give the children and therefore the country a "Sporting Chance" of a better future.
In order to give the charity the best chance of a sustainable future, long into the future and long after the ride has been completed, I've also founded ¿Por Qué No? - A Social Enterprise clothing label, developed in order to put ALL PROCEEDS into setting up and then sustaining the charity, for more info, please check - https://www.porqueno.org/
For me, a very important aspect of my ride, is that I am SELF-FUNDING it 100% myself!!! and ABSOLUTELY NO DONATIONS made, will go towards funding the trip!!!
ALL PROCEEDS will be going directly to setting up the charity!
As I have said, my mode of transport (other than the occasional flight and maybe ferry) shall be bicycle, and for the most part I intend on staying in my tent, however, I am sure that at times I would absolutely LOVE some home comforts and company.
I also know that Couchsurfing will be a fantastic way for me to meet new people, as well as get some local and insider information on places I will be visiting or travelling through.

Music, Movies, and Books
I tend to love most music and have a very eclectic taste, I feel there is a type of music for every emotion, location or moment.
As a general rule of thumb I love music with instruments, melodies and words with meaning, I also love things with chilled vibes.
I love reggae, motown, blues, early rock'n roll, country and most inbetween.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
A friend and I tandem cycled from London to Paris, dressed as French gimps, which was hilarious, particularly as we were part of an organised charity ride, where most of the other riders were very serious about cycling, wearing all the gear and riding bikes worth anywhere up to £5000. It was a great trip and for a great cause.
The following year we also took part in the national naked bike ride day and tandem cycled, naked around London - ¿Por Qué No?
Teach, Learn, Share
I enjoy cooking, drinking and exchanging tales. I'm not sure however, that there is a great deal I could physically teach someone.
However if someone wanted to help me with my Spanish, or Harmonica, it would be greatly appreciated!
What I Can Share with Hosts
As I'll be on my bicycle with limited space, supplies and money, there will be little in the physical sense that I can share, but would love to share good times, tales and company.
Also the fact that through letting me stay with you, you're helping me on my journey and through doing so you are helping me achieve my dream, whilst supporting a fantastic and deserving cause!
