ABOUT ME
I grew up on one of the barrier islands in central Florida, specifically the one that the shuttle was launched from. My childhood was spent in the ocean with rockets tearing through the sky and I didn't know to appreciate it until it was gone.
Anyways, I spent 4 years at the University of Florida studying Political Science. I love talking politics and economics and all related subjects.
I love cooking - I always insist on cooking at least one solid meal for my guests or hosts.
I don't like being cooped up inside, but I guess I deal with it.
I LOVE MY DOG!
NOTE: my fiancee and I generally share this account, but she'll be in Philadelphia for the next year, so that's why there's some references on here in the plural.
PHILOSOPHY
1) Think Globally, Act Locally
2) Never let them see you sweat
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I guess I participate by surfing with people and letting people crash at my place. I don't really know how to expand on this.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have not had a single negative CS experience. In fact, I have met several people on here I plan on staying in touch with forever.
CS says I should tell a story, but I would rather save it for in person.
Interests
There is very little that does not interest me.
I love music, cooking, politics, sports (playing more than watching, but I do have Gator and Tarheel pride in me). I'm stoked to live in a place that has some snow so I'll be able to legitimately add snowboarding to this list, because I grew up surfing (real surfing, not just couchsurfing).

Music, Movies, and Books
Orange County, Across the Universe, Hardball, Pulp Fiction. As long as it doesn't have Nicolas Cage I'm sure it's an alright movie.
Arcade Fire, Ben Folds, Brand New, Stars, Beatles, Shins
Anything by Vonnegut. I read a lot of news journals and whatnot.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I used to volunteer in a classroom for handicapped children and teach swim lessons, so naturally I combined the two whenever possible.
The greatest thing I've ever seen is the look in a 7-year old mentally handicapped boy's eyes as he swam for himself for the first time.
Teach, Learn, Share
If we're at a beach, I can teach to skimboard or surf. I'm not a pro at either, but I can certainly show the basics and I'm good enough at most board-sports to have fun and get involved.
I really want to refine my French skills, so I'd love to just talk to someone in French, who knows at least intermediate English so we can help each other. I'm a beginner in modern standard Arabic, and I have survival Spanish skills. So any language knowledge is something I'd love to learn.
