About Me

In short: I live in Seattle, I cox (row boats), I hike (when the knees cooperate), I geek out about National Parks (see below-many places), and I do the science thing a lot.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

While I can't host (I'm a roomate to 5 in a house already a bit small for us) I try my best to be a good guest. I think couchsurfing is a great way to not only see the country, but to meet so many different people. Which I suppose is it's purpose... My goals with coachsurfing more specifically have to do with seeing all of the countries national parks (59 parks, 417 NP sites!), and attempting to understand different viewpoints by entertaining lively conversation with people I normally wouldn't meet.

Traveling the country via plane to get back to work in a decent time is very expensive, so another part of why I couchsurf is to save money. I figure each dollar I can save can go towards not just a flight or an experience, but in part towards the park, helping preserve it (even if only a tiny bit) for some other person to get excited about.

Music, Movies, and Books

Oh I'm not much of a favorites person, also I'm really bad at names-including bands, movies, tv shows, and books.....

I recently finished a book called Socrates Cafe which is an easy fictional intro to philosophy which I went out and bought after first reading it from the library.
I'm currently reading a 1970's book on land use in the states which is outdated, full of examples that have since changed, written during a time of less environmental consideration, and incredibly interesting! A little bit of history, a little bit of operational decision making, and quite a bit of natural resource debate. Apparently that's my cup of tea!

I also recently binged watched "A Good Place" (all in one weekend day, don't judge I was also mildly productive) which paired with that philosophy book has started a number of good self-discussions about what being a good person means. Let's chat about it! (Or about how to binge watch netflix....)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

As a kid I used to say: "I climbed a 60 ft tree once without ropes!" Having since met many a climber, some of which free-climb, I'll put that accomplishment aside in lieu of some other random facts: I've been on a science vessel in the Pacific Ocean, I've seen totality of an eclipse, I've been to Yellowstone (a national park!) twice, and I have a tie for favorite pancake recipe- Peanut Butter Banana Chocolate Chip or Avocado Blueberry.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have a passion for genetics and conservation biology, so we can nerd out if ya like. Also, I absolutely love visiting National Parks-if you've got one in the area, come with me, I'll be going!
