Overview
About Me
I'm brand new to CouchSurfing, but have shared my home with travelers over the years, and have felt the joy of being welcomed into others' homes while bike touring!
I grew up in music--I play classical flute (along with a handful of other wind instruments with slightly less aplomb), a bit of jazz trumpet, piano, and I love to sing in choirs and solo.
I've always been a crafter. When I was little, my mom taught me how to use a sewing machine and how to knit, and I've made lots of things since then! Several years ago, I bought a spinning wheel and learned to make my own yarn. I really enjoy seeing things go from raw material to finished product, which is why, I think, I love my current job as a hula hoop builder!
Over the last four years living in Bend, OR, I've learned to rock climb (then to teach rock climbing at our local rock gym), slackline, do AcroYoga, build circus props, backcountry ski (I'm still pretty new to that!), and tons of other things! Bend is a pretty magical place when it comes to the outdoors, and there are plenty of things to do here.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I've got a couple of trips planned over the next several months, and have always meant to start up a CouchSurfing account. You never know when you might find yourself in need of a helping hand or a safe place to sleep!
I also would love to connect with folks who come to visit Oregon.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In the fall of 2011 and spring of 2012, I completed a bicycle ride from San Francisco, CA to Yorktown, VA--almost 4,000 miles! Someday I'd like to make a long tour again, but for now I will explore as much as I can.
Teach, Learn, Share
I love to teach others any little thing that might be worth knowing--anything from how to sew a button, to why a certain word sounds the way it does, to how to belay on a rock climb--I've been overly curious since I was a baby, and always hungry for knowledge and happy to share it.
I consider myself a Jill-of-all-trades, master-of-none, though some skills are better than others. I love to solve problems and puzzles, so I tend to jump at the opportunity to figure something out! I have a long history of randomly fixing things for people, including garments, appliances, and interpersonal conundrums. One of my favorite random fixes was finding a flute player in the middle of the deep playa at Burning man, whose flute wouldn't play. I happened to have the right tools on hand, and was able to get it working again!
