In the last few year I've considered the possibility of disappearing around the world for a year or two, but never thought I would actually be doing it!

Well I did it and now I'm back in the UK. My name is Anthony. My family know me as Ant. To the majority of people, I am Tony. You can call me Tony.

I was very lucky to spend about 20 months travelling around the world in 2011 and 2012 and during that time incredibly lucky to have couchsurfed and met many wonderful couchsurfers along the way. I finished my travels in the summer of 2012 and find myself living and working in Cambridge city centre. I feel that my couchsurfing karma balance is heavily weighted towards surfing so I want to balance this out by offering to host couchsurfers visiting Cambridge or meeting up for a coffee to share stories or show someone around.

I'm very easy going, still love to travel, I've managed to find myself in Gibraltar, Tallinn, Amsterdam and Cuba this year. My upcoming plans are a long weekend in Switzerland and a 3 week trip to north america to see family in canada and friends in LA and NYC. I have a passion for cinema, live music and many sports.

I cannot pin point when the travel bug struck, but a combination of further afar destinations and a couple of amazing trips to Peru and Mexico is where I lay the blame. It has been almost 5 years since I took a week off work and didn't leave the country. I always planned my year around weeks away travelling and weekends soaking up a city. I would have to admit being a little greedy when it comes to travelling. If there is the possibility of a short plane or bus ride to another country or city, then I cannot resist. This also in part is to do with being very pale and unable to spend one or two weeks sat on a beach. I simply am unable to do this, though, I can get away with a day or two.

One aspect of travelling, for me in particular, is the funny and unusual stories I have to tell. From a spider bite in Australia, to paying a random mexican with a 4x4 $500 to get us through a taxi strike in Oxaca and drive us to the airport in Mexico City. From jumping into 'that' swimming pool in Morocco to getting in a random guys car in Baltimore not having yet seen The Wire. If it is going to happen, it will happen to me. The way I see it, always an amusing story to tell at the end!

I have also been lucky enough to have worked and lived in New York City for 18 months.I love the city and loved working there. It´s difficult to explain, but I still have good friends there and regularly find myself back in NYC once or twice a year.

PHILOSOPHY

Staying positive, life is full of surprises, but we sometimes forget how lucky we are to be around and enjoying this planet we live on.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been a member of couchsurfing for a number of years now, and have mainly surfed but lately I have been regularly hosting to balance out the karma equation.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have been very lucky to have surfed all over the world. From the USA, Canada, Iceland, eastern Europe, towns along the trans-siberian, japan, south korea, thailand, philippines, qatar, india, sri lanka, china. I have even met some hosts for a 2nd time in a different country. The world is a small place full of some amazing people and I have met some wonderful people on my travels and keep in touch with many of them still.

Intereses

Besides travel...

I love watching sports, in the UK it would be football, cricket and rugby, but in the USA, I loved baseball and always get excited when the football season starts!

I love watching live music, am lucky where I lived in the UK and NYC that there is always live music going on. I still have yet to see the Airborne Toxic Event and Florence and the Machine.

I have a passion for cinema. I am catching up with old classics from 50s/60s/70s and have a monthly unlimited pass to the cineworld.
