About Me

"If something is worth doing, it's worth doing it well"

Traveller, photographer, DJ, curious, music lover, food lover too, beer lover of course (I'm Belgian after all), wine lover as well (I'm getting older :-)), reader, dreamer sometimes, stubborn sometimes too (not as much as I grow wiser, at least I hope). If only i could remember all those people's names ;-)

I traveled 1 year across Asia in 2009-2010 and wrote a few stories in a blog (in French): http://sebastiencuvelier.blogspot.com . During that time I met Grace through CS, got married a few years later and we happily live together in Luxembourg now :-)

My main passion is photography. You can check my projects here: http://www.sebweb.org
I released 3 photobooks called Gypsy Queens, Instant Star and Eunma Town.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have couchsurfed and met fellow couchsurfers in many countries and had nothing but great experiences! I love this way of travelling by meeting locals everywhere I go. Some CSers have become good friends, and hey one of them even became my wife :-)

Music, Movies, and Books

I love music, mostly rock, post-rock, electronica, techno, house, folk/antifolk, 60s pop, ... I published a book called Instant Star with Polaroid pictures of a lot of artists I like: www.sebweb.org/instantstar

My classics are David Bowie, The Velvet Underground, Leonard Cohen, the Beatles, Pulp, Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, The Cure, LCD Soundsystem, Kraftwerk, Mogwai, Joy Division, The Smiths, Gravenhurst, Elliott Smith, The Notwist, ...

Some of the more contemporary bands i've really enjoyed lately are The War on Drugs, Ty Segall, James Blake, The Black Angels, Suuns, Troy von Balthazar, The xx, Jon Hopkins, House of Wolves, Olafur Arnalds, ...

I like electronic music on labels such as Warp, Kompakt, Turbo, Innervisions, Phantasy, Comeme, Gomma, Let's Play House, Visionquest, Supersoul, Ostgut Ton, Planet E... you can listen to my mixtapes on http://www.mixcloud.com/aboynamedseb

I read a lot of newspapers and magazines, and books when I find time. I totally loved "A confederacy of dunces" by John Kennedy Toole among others.

In terms of movies, I usually don't like those Hollywood blockbusters that end with "2" or "3"... I mostly like movies which are creative, moving, smart, captivating. some of my favourites are 12 monkeys, Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, pretty much all by Quentin Tarantino, modern Korean movies such as Old boy or Mother, Goodbye Lenin, Walk the Line, half of Danny Boyle's movies, stuff like that.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Deejayed in front of thousands of people a few times, interviewed Billy Corgan, spent an evening drinking beer with Franz Ferdinand, swam with whale sharks, spent time helping out street kids in Manila, saw sea turtles from really close, traveled a good part of the world (yet not enough), backpacked for one year straight, published three books, fell in love, got married.
