I have been a science teacher, an outdoor educator, a financial advisor, a digital consultant, a marketing executive, a Google Ads Specialist, a digital manager & now I am finally running my own business. I also help out in a couple of F&B businesses, day trade cryptocurrencies and broker deals between high net worth individuals.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I want to meet as many locals as possible in the many countries I'll be visiting in this lifetime.

SURFING EXPERIENCE:
Once in HK & Once in NY. Did not find them via Couchsurfing initially though.

HOSTING EXPERIENCE:
Mainly at events, or out for food, drink or nature tours (conducted by yours truly of course)

No where else to put this so it's going here. This is my list of recommended places to visit & things to eat while you are in Singapore.

Nature:

Pulau Ubin, the last untouched piece of land we have that hasn't been developed yet. You'll get as close to a kampong (aka village) life as possible there. Think deep quarries, tons of wildlife (unless it's too hot or raining), even more birds (2 of our rarest species--hornbills, are only found on ubin) and a dirt bike trail not for the faint of heart (tons of slopes). You'll need to take an early morning ferry (ideally in time for low tide to check out of intertidal zone!) for just S$2 per person, bike rentals are about S$10 per day, the ferry departs from Changi Village (contrary to its name, it is no where near to the airport). While Ubin is the most visited, i highly recommend Sisters' Island (only during low tide), the intertidal zone is comparable to the Maldives (in terms of diversity not necessarily in terms of color). You can reach the islands via boat from Marina Pier (near MBS).

If early morning boats aren't your thing, you can check out the Southern Ridges Trail, the two ends are a coast and a shopping mall, no joke. I usually start from the coast and make my way to the mall for dinner. If you're lucky you might get to see our "famous" green vine snake (i forgot the scientific name).

Food. This one will be subjective, but i'm going with my personal favorites.

1. Chicken Rice
Maxwell Food Center (Tian Tian) or United Square (Wee Nam Kee). National dish, these 2 are my go-tos.
2. Laksa
Holland Village Katong Laksa. Holland Village is also a decently priced nightlife area (albeit only for beer & with no views, it's also where half of the expats go to drink, if you're home sick)
3. Changi Village
Everything here is good but i usually go for the chicken chop horfun, Nasi Lemak and the Red Tea Logan (RTL), they have the longest queues, can't miss 'em. Contrary to its name, it is not near the airport.
4. Bat Tuk Teh (Song Fa, near Bugis-ish) , i usually go for cocktails nearby after having this (did i mention i know all the best bars?)
5. Wanton Mee (Fei Fei, Joo Chiat)
6. Carrot Cake (not the dessert, this is fried), Fu Ming Carrot Cake near Redhill
7. Dim Sum (Swee Choon, the only place to get this done right, but the queue is insane)
8. Kaya Toast & eggs, a breakfast dish (any non-air conditioned food place with a drinks stall). I recommend having this at Heap Seng Leong. The Butter coffee is fking epic. This place has been around for donkey years. Father pass on to son but both still work there. Amazing place to relive the good old days in Singapore.
9. Curry Fish Head (Samy's Curry, this is a little pricey but the food is A.W.E.S.O.M.E, location is shit though)
10. Bak Chor Mee (Minced Meat Noodle), Can't pick a best one but you should be able to find this almost anywhere (i've been having this at this coffeeshop at Boat Quay, near ANOTHER great cocktail bar)
11. Orh Lua (oyster omelette), Bedok 85
12. Hokkien Mee
13. Satay
14. BBQ Stingray (Pasir Panjang Food Center (remember southern ridges trail? This is right smack in the middle of the trail)
15. Tau Huay (sweetened beancurd tofu), Rochor Tau Huay
16. Chwee Kuay (another breakfast dish), Ghim Koh Market
17. Char Kway Teow (fried rice cake noodles), Hong Lim Food Center
18. Things i skipped, Nasi Lemak, it's at changi Village. Durian, cos i don't like it. Rojak, I don't eat fruits but this is another local favorite.
19. Local Cocktails - using local foods/desserts to infuse with alcohol, what could be better? Check out Ah Sam's Cold Drinks Stall (seriously, it's a bar) or BarStories and ask for local themed drinks (both bespoke no menu). I've had chilli crab cocktail, longang cocktail, teh tarik cocktail.. man i could go on forever.
20. Chili Crab. Everyone seems to think it's a Singaporean dish. I don't think so but hey i could be wrong. Grab some from Long Beach or JUMBO. Remember to ask for Mantou.

Culture (Day)
1. Singapore's last kampung (rural village). It's not an actual tourist attraction as people still live there but Kampung Lorong Buangkok is really a page out of an ancient history storybook. Worth a visit if you really have time.
2. Haji lane (after sunset) - the place comes alive when all the hipster stores close and the bars open. Think live music on the street.
3. Chinatown, Little India, Kampung glam - the old british districts for the chinese, indians and malays respectively. Each area still holds a bit of charm from the old days but personally for me they've all become tourist spots too quickly. The key takeaway for me is how each area has expanded its influence to closely related peoples. E.g. KG, which previously was reserved for malays now also hosts people (and food) from the middle east), or how Little india also now host people and food from Bangladesh & Pakistan as well.
4. Gardens by the bay (putting this under culture because it reflects Singaporeans love for trying to be number 1. Fun fact, within the park grounds are at least 1 plant species from every continent on earth. Fun fact 2, the giant "trees" you see on every photograph actually collect rain water so the entire park is self sustaining. Fun fact 3, if you come at night 745,845 & 945 (i think) at the giant "trees" there is a light and sound show that is way better than the MBS one.

Nightlife:
1. Fancy a party with free entry, no queuing for entry and free drinks to top off the night. That's what happens when you party with me. 7 days a week.
2. $2 Oysters. Chimichanga, 36 dunlop street, every Monday from 5pm onwards. 1 for 1 drinks too
3. A better & cheaper view than MBS. Level33. Highest brewery in Asia, home made craft beer and a view to die for. It's free entry by the way. Bring a camera with panoramic features, you will need it. Go at sunset.
4. The 3 Quays. Robertson Quay ($$$) is where you will find the more upscale restaurants and bars. Boat Quay ($$) is where you'll find all the tourist trap restaurants and a common hangout for expats for the relatively cheap beer. There is also a bar where you can buy drinks in exchange for stage time. Clarke Quay ($), nightlife central of Singapore, over 6 major clubs in one compound. Go on Wednesdays when it's ladies night (free entry, free drinks) or on Fridays when the real party starts.
