About Me
CURRENT MISSION
My mission is to broaden my awareness of the world around me through travel and study.
ABOUT ME
I have lived in four different Canadian provinces and currently make my home in Raleigh, North Carolina. I have travelled around the world and usually enjoy the journey more than the destination. It's not unusual to find me with a camera in my hand, and most of what I photograph will end up on my blog. When I'm not traveling and working, I enjoy studying history, reading, working on my motorcycle, playing and listening to music and creative writing.
PHILOSOPHY
I'm a big believer in the 4-H motto - learn to do by doing.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm a surfer and a host ... and have had nothing but positive experiences. I also enjoy hanging out with the local couchsurfing groups.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Started couchsurfing in August 2007, and have surfed and hosted several times since.
Interests
Rock climbing, motorcycles, music, woodworking, blogging, radio broadcasting, history, and my dog - not necessarily in that order. I've been told that I have Hobby-Attention-Deficit-Disorder; I simply prefer to think of it as "abundantly distracted by multiple interests"!

Music, Movies, and Books
I'm an avid book junkie, with over two thousand titles in my library. Most of what I read now is historical non-fiction, but I still enjoy reading high quality fiction from Canadian authors like Margaret Atwood, Timothy Findlay, John Ralston Saul, Alistair MacLeod, and the like. Movies aren't my thing, but I do listen to a lot of music - from folk to rap to rock.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Standing in the ruins of Helmsley Castle in England was one of the most powerful experiences I have ever had. It is indescribable. Motorcycling to Canada was another terrific experience; several thousand miles in the saddle gives a person a new perspective on how big the world is.
Teach, Learn, Share
As an amateur musician, I love to hang around other musicians; those experiences are almost always educational, since I still have so much to learn about music. What do I have to teach? I'm a computer guru.
