Overview
About Me
I'm half Maltese, half Dutch - raised in Malta by both parents where we mostly spoke English since thats the common language between my parents.
I first travelled alone for a month when I was 16 and became hooked instantly, travelling for longer and with less space in between trips as money, jobs and education would allow. In 2015 I spent 5 months living alone with a cousin in Amsterdam, and about a month of the rest of the year travelling in different places.
Last year (2016) I spent almost 6 months backpacking through parts of south and southeast asia with two friends and I'm now hoping to keep up my new habit of spending half of the year abroad for as long as I manage!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
The concept is really cool, I've always loved visiting friends and family where they live as well as hosting friends from abroad and using it as an excuse to have a holiday at home.
I agree it's the best way to see and get to know a place, so I love the idea that a place like this exists for places where you don't know someone (yet!)
Interests
Pretty obvious for this website but: travel.
I also love museums, art, and architecture; all of which I encounter more of via said travel.
I'm an avid fan of facts, no matter what the information is I'm curious to know more and I tend to be the person at the table who remembers the pointless things we learned in science when we were 10.
Music, Movies, and Books
"Food. Drink. Sleep. Books. They are all drugs" - Fay Weldon
I'm really bad at picking favourites but I can appreciate most things, I felt this quote aptly described the feeling of a book whose world you can't escape, a series you binge watch until you can't keep your eyes open, a song/album you listen to on repeat until you might hate it, a movie you've watched enough times to consider it a comfort food... and also food and drink which are always worth mentioning because yes please.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Backpacking for 6 months through 7 countries in Asia. Not so amazing for some people on here I'm sure, but I'm the first person in my social circle to have attempted this for an extended period, and as three girls travelling from a very safe little island it took a leap to ignore all the worried overprotective advice and just go, and it was an experience that has given rise to many worldwide friends and plans for the future.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Information! and hopefully a good laugh too.
I'm the type of person who is happy to explore alone as well as enjoy your company, I'm not your grandmother - you don't need to host and entertain in the traditional sense, I will enjoy getting to know you and tag along to the cinema with you and your friends but I'll happily wander the tourist sites you point me towards alone and only ask you recommend me the perfect place to lunch :)
I'm also admittedly a pretty good cook and love dinners and lunches, I'm always hosting meals for a group of 6 or so friends where the labour division is generally at I cook - they clean, and I'd love to help you do the same, or learn local recipes from you!
