About Me
Hello world!
My name is Ace. I've been a couchsurfer since 2010, and have met amazing people, made many incredible memories, and shared many meals.
Starting June, I will be on the road traveling across the U.S. for the rest of the year. The current plan is to head out from Boston (where I used to live), down through Appalachia, over into Bourbon Trail in KY, up to Chicago, into the Badlands, and continue West- exploring as many National Parks & small towns as possible.
If you are looking for a couch in Boston- I will no longer be in the apartment. Plz reach out instead to my housemate & fellow surfer (https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/ellen.bechtel).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I joined Couchsurfing when I was just a broke high schooler- looking for some freedom. It afforded that to me, and many folks opened their homes to me, and helped me find rides, taught me to hitchhike and how to be street smart.
Most recently, I've had a rigid job that was hard to travel with- so I've hosted some people, and again- it was a wonderful experience, and a way to taste some freedom, even while shackled to a corporate job.
Now- I've quit, packed up my apartment and crammed it into my car, and have set out across the U.S. Along the way, I hope to be reminded of the freedom I once felt, traveling around without much of a plan or a destination in high school. I hope to meet cool people doing things they love, in places they feel at home in, and I hope to be a humble and gracious visitor and guest.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Swimming in the warm Arabian Sea off the coast of India in January.
Teach, Learn, Share
I've had many past lives... I've worked at advertising agencies and media companies, and can tell you how to create a kickass messaging campaign for your organization, cooperative, nonprofit, etc. I've also been a community organizer & an anti-oppression & organizing trainer, working with college students on how to organize & mobilize around issues like environmental and racial justice.
I would love to learn how to play the harmonica (i'm traveling with 2, gifted to me a few months ago)
What I Can Share with Hosts
The most tangible thing I can share with you is a delightful meal. Though not professionally trained, I have many many recipes under my belt and would love to cook up something for you.
