About Me

I currently live in a suburb of Washington DC where I teach biology and find community wherever I go. I would describe myself as a perky/bubbly individual at best. I love to laugh at subtle things, carry on deep conversations, and explore new places and things, although I am naturally an introvert--ironic, right?

I am particularly interested in the environment and how it is interconnected with how we live our lives, as well as how different cultures weave together.

Regardless of interests, origin, religion, or philosophy, I try my best to keep an open mind and am interested in what others have to say, normally preferring to listen than to talk.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My work has been my life recently, and that needs to change. I am looking to find new books, listen to new music, and explore new ideas. The best way to do that is to get out and meet someone new!

Interests

I am fascinated with both arts and sciences. I am especially interested in ecology, psychology, and animal behavior. In my free time I enjoy board games, oil painting, hiking, bicycling, and reading. I am also learning to play the ukulele for fun!

In my quest to continue cultivating naturalist skills that I began exploring while living in Central Pennsylvania, I am learning skills in backpacking, primitive living, and idenifying plants, birds, herps, and fungi.

Music, Movies, and Books

My movie and TV show tastes have expanded in the last few years - since becoming a teacher, I have come to love grading papers while a show is on. Documentaries are my favorite, but I have come to love Call the Midwife - I recently finished all 12 seasons and I am heartbroken!

My musical tastes have an interesting range: Classical, jazzy, pop, techno, rock, punk, reggae, grunge. My Spotify's "recently played" lists Pink Floyd, Coldplay, fun., Relient K, Vulfpeck, Rend Collective, Owl City, Rebelution, Needtobreathe, Twenty One Pilots, Switchfoot, Grouplove, American Authors, Josh Garrels, and Simon and Garfunkel.

I love any book that challenge my worldview and help me see life in a new perspective. I am especially a lover of autobiographies! A few recent titles include Everybody Always, Caste, Polysecure, and any book by Michelle Obama. Ugh, she is amazing!
