About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Record my next album!

ABOUT ME

I am a taller than average, fatter than average, beardier than average human being.
I love listening to music, playing music, talking to interesting people, going out to drink, trekking, etc...
I usually travel with musical instruments, if not a guitar or mandolin then at least mouth harps or small musical toys, so I'm especially interested in getting to know people who are interested in playing some music. I also love going out to shows, bars, etc... I like both more and less urban settings, the bustling cultural life of cities and the beauty and tranquility of the countryside are both essential to me. I like seeing interesting architecture, nature in general (I love animals and trees), mountains, good walks, etc...
Overall, I just want to get to know the world and the amazing people and things to be found int it!

PHILOSOPHY

Live life.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is my bread and butter. I can't go without it. I play a bunch of different instruments and like to listen to a bunch of different styles of music - rock, rap, reggae, dub, ska and jamaican music in general, jazz, metal, brasilian music, blues, experimental and interesting electronic music, southeast asian music, indian music, turkish music, music from mali, etc... Some of my favorite bands/musicians, in no particular order: of course the classics of rock (beatles, led zep, sabbath, cream) as well as more alternative classics of that era (Mutantes, Erkin Koray, Secos e Molhados, Sinn Sisamouth, etc...). Public Enemy, wu-tang, Jurassic 5, Biggie, Racionais, SNJ, Rappin Hood. Tuvan music (Yat-Kha, Ondar, Huun-Huur-Tu), Mali music (Oumou Sangare, Ali Farka Toure, Toumani Diabate), Melvins, Boris, Secret Chiefs 3, John Zorn, Mingus, Louis Armstrong (especially hot 5 and hot 7 recordings), coltrane, videogame music, Deicide, Revenant, Darkthrone, Minor Threat, Black Flag, The comes, The Stalin... the list could go on forever.
Movies are also one of my great passions: I like a lot of more conventional hollywood films, but most of my collection is made up of underground movies from all over the world, trashy action films, kung fu films, loads of documentaries (especially about excentric people), etc... My favorite director is probably Kurosawa.
As for books, I am a historian and thus I read a lot of history books, but my true passion is literature. Some of my favorite authors are Gene Wolfe, Salman Rushdie, Samuel Delany, Haruki Murakami, Margaret Atwood, Kazuo Ishiguro, Nabokov, Jose Saramago, but I read a lot of different stuff. As for poetry, I especially like Emily Dickinson, EE Cummings and Guimaraes Rosa.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
