About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Bicycling around the world for charity.

ABOUT ME

I am an avid cyclist, foodie and outdoor nut from the Pacific Northwest of the United States.

Since April of 2009 I've been on a round-the-world bicycle trip with my brother. Like most CS members I'm somewhat adventurous and often willing to try new things, especially in regard to cuisine!

As for the arts, I also enjoy literature, film, music and stage performances, in that order.

PHILOSOPHY

Nothing original: to live an upright, wholesome, noble, fulfilling life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

So far I've only been a couchsurfer, not a host. When I return from this trip I would be delighted to host some other surfers!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had many great experiences couch surfing on this trip, but we were using my little brother's profile so that's where all of the references are. His profile can be found here for references: http://www.couchsurfing.org/people/lladnarandall/

Now that I'm travelling alone I'm using my own profile.

Interests

Bicycling. Road, mountain, touring racing--you name it! In years past I've also been into skiing.

Travelling, of course. I've visited about 30 countries around the world so far, many of them by bicycle.

Cooking. I enjoy cooking mainly Thai food and Italian, but I've ventured into other territories from time to time.

Reading. I love to read the classics and travel stories.

Geography. I have no formal education in geography but I am fascinated by it.

Technology. My educational background is in computer science but I have not worked in the field.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Japanese films directed by Akira Kurosawa, Lord of the Rings, The Godfather, Up, and many more.

Music: Symphony, Gregorian Chant, Punjabi music, Roots Reggae (The Wailing Souls, Toots, Israel Vibration), Pop (Jack Johnson, Coldplay).

Books: the writings of G.K. Chesterton, Charles Dickens, J.R.R. Tolkien, Bram Stoker, and many 19th-century Russian authors.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've slept in a cave overlooking the Mediterranean Sea in Southern Spain, crossed the desolate deserts of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and also traversed the Pamir Highway in Tajikistan on the boarder of Afghanistan by bicycle. It's all relative, though: Many people have done these things and a large number of people have done things that are far more amazing!

Teach, Learn, Share

I am always delighted to share my knowledge of the interests that I have mentioned above.

Also, I am eager to learn more about the culture, food and language of the different places that I visit, especially if my acquaintances have a unique perspective to share!

Countries I’ve Visited

Cambodia, Czech Republic, France, Malaysia, Netherlands, Switzerland

Countries I’ve Lived In

Italy, Thailand, United States
