About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Exploring India! I’m visiting India on my way home to Australia after a year exploring overseas.
ABOUT ME
I'm a pretty relaxed and easy going Australian. Glad to help and like to have fun/just hang out and chat. People usually find me pretty easy to get along with and I almost always find others easy to get along with too.
I really like to learn things. I wish I could spend my whole life learning languages and instruments and board games and sports and ways of thinking.
Yup!
In 2024, I’ve been travelling with my wonderful partner, Qian, from China. She speaks Mandarin and also her hometown language, and is learning English. She loves nature, food and cooking, dancing, making things by hand and has done some challenging outdoor things like multi-day hikes, a half marathon, and a week-long bike ride. Sadly, Qian won’t be joining me on my trip to India.
PHILOSOPHY
Keen to learn about things, all sorts of things. I like enjoying things for what they are.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have really enjoyed hosting people and meeting people when I travel to new cities.
One of my favourite things about hosting people is that I end up exploring new parts of the city I live in that I would never have explored if I hadn't been hosting someone.
I also really love meeting people who are quite different from me.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Before I joined this site I hosted some Germans and a Colombian whilst living at home in Australia. Fun!
Since joining, I've hosted in China and surfed in China and South Korea and Laos.
I've also enjoyed just travelling with other couchsurfers, or meeting couchsurfers in the cities I've lived in.
Interests
Music, reading with a hot drink and chocolatey chocolate, spending time with friends, running around. I like to check out local culture, food, music etc too.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music:Sufjan Stevens, Magnetic Fields, Antony and the Johnsons, Paul Simon, Sigur Ros, Peter Paul and Mary, Arvo Part, Brahms, Debussy, Satie, Phillip Glass, traditional music from around the world, especially Indian and Western classical music. Books:C. S. Lewis, Jack Kerouac, Tolstoy, Dickens,
Movies:Life is Beautiful, dunno, anything that's beautiful/interesting/fun.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Exploring Xihu (a lake) in Hangzhou when I first arrived in China was an amazing experience. Walking around the lake listening to Arvo Part, climbing nearby mountains, walking alone and amongst the crowds, meeting people on the streets, smelling smells I'd never smelled and seeing sights I'd never seen.
The second 'one amazing thing I've done' was hitchhiking around China, Thailand and Myanmar.
Teach, Learn, Share
Just secretly, I like to share songs I've written and I love to talk about almost everything!
And I love playing music with other people!
What I Can Share with Hosts
Music, language, stories, fun, food! I'd love to go exploring places you haven't explored yet either! Or share some music with you - songs I've written or songs I've loved. I can teach you piano, guitar, bass guitar, song writing, English, Mandarin, Korean and tips on how to learn languages.
Qian can share about China and Chinese food with you (including maybe cooking something??), and we both can share with you about the Chinese Mandarin language, which Qian speaks as a native speaker and I speak at an advanced level as an adult learner.
