Sobre mí

I'm a British guy currently living in Budapest since November 2015. I'm a freelance writer and work from home, which meant it made much more sense to live a much better lifestyle in Europe than struggling to make ends meet in somewhere like London.
I'm a mercenary, mostly, selling words wherever I can for as much as I can. It's simultaneously an easy and a very difficult job.

I love travelling and meeting new people, and I'm usually the one talking to strangers for the hell of it. I'm sorry, in advance.

I'm really into music (of practically any genre) and will go to any concerts that are suggested to me. I'm also an avid snowboarder, but have only done it for a handful of years - so yet to properly get on the snow parks.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

Since coming to Budapest I've realised just how exciting I find meeting new people, and enjoy speaking with fellow travellers to find out what inspires and interests them.

Since travel and socialising are two of my favourite things it made sense that I should join Couchsurfing. It was recommended to me by someone in Budapest, and so I thought I might as well get involved.

Intereses

- reading/writing
- music/concerts (most things, really)
- travelling anywhere and everywhere and experiencing as much of the world as possible
- comedy: stand-up, TV programmes and just making other people laugh
- snowboarding (and soon longboarding)
- drinking (of course, I'm British) and meeting new people
- eating good food at good restaurants with good people

Música, películas y libros

This is an impossible set of questions to answer since I don't really have any one 'favourite'.
In terms of music, I really do listen to almost anything - from heavy rock to cheesy ska punk to house and techno. Some of my favourite albums are simply that way because of the nostalgia, the likes of blink-182's Take Of Your Pants And Jacket reminding my of my angsty youth and I Am Kloot's self-titled second album conjuring very fond memories.

Movies, well, I'm a little pickier about. It's rare that a modern film stands out for me - most recently Filth and, before it, Drive - since I find it's all a little derivative these days. Older favourites are the likes of Battle Royale, Old Boy, The Warriors, Monty Python's movies, Blade Runner and Blazing Saddles.

Books is tougher than the rest, since there are so many that I have loved and mean a lot to me. My one stand out favourite - for some reason - is Brave New World, one of the rare times I've actually enjoyed studying a book (and I studied English for the whole of my education). Most recently I read 'A Wild Sheep Chase' by Haruki Murakami which I enjoyed very much.

Algo increíble que he hecho

I'm too humble to think of anything amazing that I've done, but I've not lived a quiet life and take most anything in my stride - rarely am I phased by anything especially stressful (such as losing my passport in Canada, on the day I was supposed to fly).

I suppose many think the amazing thing I've done is to move - alone - to Budapest, without ever having been there and without knowing anyone, but if you're reading this then you're probably quite a like-minded person and know it wouldn't have taken courage to get out and see the world.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I'm not sure what exactly this means... I mean, if I have knowledge to impart then I will do so... but believe when I say that if I do it'll be totally by accident.

I know about some of the intricacies of Budapest - but I've only been here for a matter of months, there's still so much to know.

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

I have two separate sofabeds (which I'm told are pretty comfortable), one of which is in a separate room. They both have quilts and pillows and fold out to allow for two people to sleep fairly well.

Additionally I'd be more than happy to share my time, my (constantly growing) knowledge of Budapest and conversation with anyone that might stay. I work pretty relaxed hours, so more than happy to entertain where I can.
