About Me

At first glance, I'm an extremely tattooed man, but there is a lot more to say about me: I'm a Mexican-American student. I'm currently working on two associates degrees in humanities and in social science. I could be called a nerd because I practically live at school: I work as a writing tutor there, I'm the president of a book club that I started, I'm a honor student, I participate in research, I volunteer at my college. I even plan to be a professor one day. (I never want to leave academia). I am also currently going through a Catholic catechism. And I am straight edge (no drugs) and a vegetarian. And I'm a big bookworm (hence why I started a book club). Some of my greatest interests are art, art history, philosophy, religion, history, and food (except meat of course). A cup of tea and profound conversation are my greatest pleasure. Add classical music to this, and we will be best friends. Thus, my interests have compelled me to save up money to visit Eastern Europe! I want to see with my own eyes the artistic breakthrough and what stood as the largest church in the world for a thousand years--the Hagia Sphia in Istanbul, Turkey; I want work my way into Greece and visit the cities where Christendom first took its roots; I want to go into Bosnia and stand at the castle that towers over Doboj; I want to continue through Eastern European countries and cross the sea into Helsinki, Finland, to feel Scandinavian culture; I also want to cross the sea again to go to the place where emperors once ruled from--St. Petersburg, Russia; I want to visit Moscow too; but more than anything I want discover Eastern thought. I want to know Eastern Europe.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

There are two main reasons why I want to sleep in your couch. The first is financial. I began to save up for this trip and plan it since I took my first art history course. However, my savings can only afford me so little. I'm a starving student. I need to save as much money as possible on this trip. Second, I want to build relationships on my trip. I am a big extrovert. I want to be introduced to these places by their own locals.

Interests

As mentioned, I love books, everything humanities, food, and tea. Health is also very important to me.

Music, Movies, and Books

My top three movies are Braveheart, Gladiator, and Ostrov ("The Island"). My all time favorite book is Descartes' Meditations on First Philosophy. And I listen to all types of music, but I mostly enjoy classical and 80's.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The greatest thing I've ever done is walk into a Russian Orthodox cathedral in Los Angeles and kiss a piece of the True Cross. It was on 15 February 2014.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a certified writing tutor and I am the recipient of an award at my college for being the best English student and of the year for the 2013-2014 academic year, so I can teach English.

What I Can Share with Hosts

All I can share are stories, company, and more stories, and some humor.
