About Me

Hey there, so I've recently left my job as a scientific consultant in london and am now trying to write some comedy, whilst also travelling around the world. Before Christmas I spent some time in the Netherlands, France and Spain. I was originally planning on going back to Spain this year but some cheap flights to Boston changed my mind for me, so now i'll be travelling throughout March and April in the US hoping to see as much as possible in the time that I have. I hope to hit up as many of the following places - Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D. C., Nashville, Charleston, Savannah, Montgomery, Memphis, New Orleans, Austin, San Antonio, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Chicago and then back to Boston. Phew, it's tiring just even writing that.

So I thought what better way to meet people in new places than via couch surfing, with a view to offering my own couch in the future. I did couch surf in France on my trip before Christmas and I had a great experience of meeting new people and being shown around some beautiful cities by some really friendly people. So I hope to do the same in the US.

About me, I enjoy going to gigs (and have got a few gigs, comedy and music, booked in different cities during my trip), good conversation, cooking, film, meeting new people and clearly, travelling... the usual I suppose. I would say I'm pretty laid back, which has got be a positive trait for couch surfing, right?!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Firstly, it seems like a great way to meet new people and have some unique adventures! In fact, that is how it has worked out so far with my two couch surfing experiences. Plus in the past, some of my best memories of travelling have been through accepting the unexpected kindness of strangers and vice versa! I hope to return the couch surfing favour post-travelling, once i've returned to the UK and re-settled.

Interests

Reading, music (all sorts) and gigs, film, politics (pretty left wing), sport (football, cricket, cycling especially), cooking and eating good food quizzes...

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - Black Sabbath, My Morning Jacket, High on Fire, Fats Domino, Roy Orbison, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Camera Obscura might be some of my favourite bands / singers. Rock, Blues, Jazz, Metal, Soul all get a thumbs up in general.

Best book I've read recently has been the wonderful world of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz. Love Down and Out in Paris and London, the Hobbit, A Picture of Dorian Gray and many other books. I'll happily read most things.

Best films I've seen recently have been Green Room, Boyhood and Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Kon-Tiki and Force Majeure. I also love Adventure Time an unhealthy amount and will grieve for a solid 6 months once they make the last episode.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been lifted onto a large ship in the middle of the sea by crane from a smaller boat a few times for my old job. I used to have to hang onto a basket attached to the crane with no safety harness and then get lifted up over the middle of the sea. Plus I used to occasionally have to climb up onto the ship from the small boat to the big ship using the ladder on the side of the ship, again with no safety harness. Maybe not so amazing, more terrifying. It's sent shivers down my spine just thinking about it again.

Teach, Learn, Share

Hmmm, I'm a decent cook so could share some recipes I suppose. And through conversation I'm sure their can be mutual learning and teaching. If you are interested in chemistry and science then I can help there too but I can't expect there are that many people who would be interested in sitting down to an evening's chemistry lecture.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Hopefully sparkling conversation, considerate behaviour and fun times. I'd also be happy to cook if that's convenient for the host. I guess I can share any music and films that I may have on my laptop and I would be happy to talk your ear off about the UK, Liverpool and London.
