About Me

My name is Adam - I'm a musician from a little town in the north of England. I'm taking a break from all things music and spending the next three months back in the USA, a country I last spent time in way back in 2012. I'll be staying with old friends and hunkering down in hostels and hotels, but hopefully I'll be meeting some new folk along the way as well. I'm obviously into my music, but I'm also passionate about beer (alcohol in general really), I'm a literature graduate, I enjoy running and hiking, and travel is a big part of my life. This is starting to feel like a dating profile and I've already used the word "hunkering," so I'll sign off. Feel free to add away on social media; my instagram snaps from my trip will be at adammcculloch23.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm here to meet new people and get away from the tourist trail as much as possible. The last time I travelled solo in the U.S I met so many amazing people - from Philadelphia to Seattle and everywhere in between. If I can get some local knowledge and meet some new friends along the way, that would be great.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music-wise I'm into a pretty wide range; American indie, some alt-folk acts particularly Gregory Alan Isakov and Sufjan Stevens. I will listen to everything from house to hip-hop. My only disclaimer is I'm not a huge Ed Sheeran fan, but I'll sing Thinking Out Loud to you if you put me up!

Movies - again I'm not too picky. I love classic films and I was raised on Laurel and Hardy. It's A Wonderful Life is one of my favourite films whatever the time of year, and I could watch Hitchcock's work for all time. Saying that, I could happily watch big, bold, bad blockbusters and not get bored. In TV terms I have been obsessed with It's Always Sunny for way too long.

Seeing as I like a good trip around America, I'm a big fan of Steinbeck's writing. I wrote my thesis on Victorian literature, specialising in things like Tennyson, Bronte and all the other big hitters. In terms of more modern work I always enjoy Sebald.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm happy to offer return visits to the UK and to show you around my neck of the woods! I'll also happily treat hosts to dinner, beers and just generally be a nice guy: I just want a chance to meet new folk and scratch beneath the surface of places.
