About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To expand my horizons through travel and learning the stories of those I meet along the way.

ABOUT ME

I've been traveling around Europe for the past few months, soaking up as much culture and sunshine as I've been able to manage (despite the European winter).

I work as a Supervisor/Organizer for a special needs day camp back in my hometown. Its one of my passions and I greatly value the opportunity it affords me to be a positive influence in the lives of young people. I hope to one day do non-profit or community organizing work as it relates to education reform (particularly the integration of teaching emotional literacy within the classroom setting).

When I'm not at home working I'm traveling. Over the past 4 or so years I've been working for 6 months at a time followed by a 6 month break of traveling. It's a lifestyle I really love and feel incredibly fortunate to be living.

I like to think that I'm a pretty laid-back and open-minded fellow. I'm passionate about social justice and issues of inequality. I grew up playing sports and now volunteer as a high school football coach (trying to break down traditional gender roles in the sporting context).

PHILOSOPHY

I try to live my life with complete openness and honesty. Control what you can control.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Good conversation! I'm intrigued by humanity and the human condition and love the idea of a community of strangers who work together in a mutually beneficial fashion. I find that meeting new people and learning from/with them is such an integral part of my personal development and I do not wish to become stagnant.

Interests

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a pretty eclectic taste in music and my musical taste tends to go in waves. I like hip hop, alternative, folk, classic rock, yadayadayada the list could go on and on. My favorite band just might be Blink-182 though.

I don't know if I have a favorite movie; I know that's lame I just don't know if there's one that stands out above all the rest.

Ah yes, books, I'm a passionate reader. To name a few which I've enjoyed... On the Road (cliche I know), Twitch/Beautiful Boy, A Long Walk to Freedom, Underground (Mark Rudd's story about his involvement with the Weather Underground), LOTR, The Wheel of Time Series, The Prophet, Looking for Alaska.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Afrikaburn in the Klein Karoo of South Africa (Its a Burning Man regional event). Never before have I seen so many people come together in unison to create such beauty in such an inhospitable place.

Teach, Learn, Share

Every person we meet as a unique living organism with their own compelling story to share. I'd love to share mine and I relish in the opportunity to hear yours.
