About Me

What can we say about us? We're a young married couple, together for 9 years, who have decided to quit our 9-5 lives and travel the world! We've been saving for a mortgage for the past 8 years, and for EVER I have wanted to travel and really experience the world! We came to the realisation a year ago that if we get a house, then our dreams of travelling go down the drain...so we both decided to put the 'dream' house on hold to pursue our dream of touring the world!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As we mentioned, we are travelling the world! We are doing some stints in hotels, some airbnb and lots of overnight parking in Walmart car parks while road tripping through the USA! We've done a brief workaway placement on a farm and have found the best way to really experience travelling is by living and mixing with locals - people who understand the pulse of their cities and countries! We've had some AMAZING experiences being hosted on Couchsurfing, and we had gained so much knowledge that we would have not got otherwise, but above all we have gained friends for life.

Interests

Adam: When I'm at home I am in my element when on my PlayStation, however I've obviously had to give that up for the travels! I love reading, watching movies, meeting new people, learning about new cultures and seeing amazing scenery! I like to consider myself an amateur photographer and have really enjoyed documenting our travels on camera so far.

Meg: For a long time my main interests involved buying a house and starting a family. After reconsidering the logistics of it, I realised I might not be as happy as I had envisioned. And after travelling, I feel like my biggest interest is the pursuit of happiness. Life should be fulfilling and there's no reason for us to slave away doing something we don't enjoy. Meeting people is a great source of my happiness, and I've never smiled as much as I have in these past months of travelling the world 🌍. There's so much beauty out there.

Music, Movies, and Books

We can't pinpoint one genre of music that we like, we literally enjoy everything from classical to rap to pop and drum and bass! Being former musicians, we appreciate good music of all kinds. Adam has a penchant for fiction books, particularly fantasy (Patrick Rothfuss, George RR Martin and David Gemmel to name a few authors) and has recently started reading the 7 habits of highly effective people. Megan is less well read, but loves a good fantasy novel if it pulls her in (Jennifer Fallen - Wolfblade Trilogy 😍). Movies wise, we love a lot of different genres, but our favourite category would be comedy as we love to laugh and make people laugh!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Taught in a youth steel drum band - building towards a performance 9 months later - words can't describe the pride I felt when the band aced its first performance!! Also 3 month road trip from East to west coast of USA, some amazing sights!

Teach, Learn, Share

Adam: I worked in the welfare office for 6 years and most recently have worked as a recruiter. I have a huge passion for helping people; I specialise in teaching people ways to write personalised CVs/resumes; on the more creative side I used to teach the Caribbean steel drums to a youth group back home (how I met Megan) and also taught myself the keyboard - although to a very basic level. I'm happy to share my limited knowledge of keyboard or even my more advanced knowledge of steel drums if you happen to have a set!

Meg: I studied for four years to become an Artist Teacher 😀. This meant I trained not only to teach children aged 3-11 years, but also had the privilege of exploring my identity as an artist (this mostly manifested in installation art). After teaching for just one year in England, I realised it wasn't what I thought it would be. Would you expect 90 hour weeks?? So while I love working with children, I'm not sure teaching in England is for me (at the moment...). I'd love to follow my creative side more and have time to make things. This is my favorite way to express myself. I'd gladly help you in any creative endeavour :-).

What I Can Share with Hosts

We have a great sense of humour, and can cook pretty well - we have so far brought classic British roast dinners to three different Canadian families! We look forward to sharing our stories with people further afield, and hearing all about other people's travels! Also we can share over 50GB of movies and TV shows!
