About Me

Life-long student, idealist and a dreamer.

Changed the course of my life mid-degree, said goodbye to money and comfortable life (law and business school), and in the end decided to "save the world" instead (psychology degree). But wouldn't have it any other way as it is hands down the best decision I have made in my entire life. It gave me unique perspective on people and life in general, and a chance to grow as a person and human being when I have worked with people from various walks of life, fighting a wide range of problems. I'm extremely grateful for that experience.

I have two quite diametrically different sides. One professional, compassionate, and thoughful. The other fun loving. As a result of the environment I have moved in (psychology / security forces), I have quite dark sense of humor, as it is a strong prerequisite to stay sane in a highly troubled world. Most people love that fact about me, but more conservative people might faint from the shock. I am not a complete idiot though, as I do read the person and the situation before letting myself be my true funny self. In a highly professional setting, I was even asked if I ever laugh! One of my greatest personal achievements.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet new people from different cultures and experience the culture from their perspective, not just as a random tourist on holiday. To get good tips what to see and experience from the view of a local, or to give those tips myself and help people make unforgettable memories while travelling.

Also having a roof over my head while travelling and not having to fight homeless person over a cardboard box (or to snuggle with him to keep warm when I eventually and inevitably lose the fight) is a clear bonus in my eyes.

Interests

"Sophisticated":
I'm psychology and security studies buff. At least those are the fields that hold my interest and I am fascinated by, so I spend most of my time reading or visiting lectures/conferences about these topics. Military life, conflict zones, special forces, terrorism and propaganda... just the regular stuff anyone normal doesn't really need or even want to know.

Pastimes:
Definitely movies/TV shows for I am a huge cinephile and know of more actors, directors and screenwriters, than of famous psychologists (and that's saying something considering what I studied). I enjoy blockbusters as well as indie films - what I go for is quality (of acting, dialogues and story) so I don't care that much whether it is drama, thriller, or comedy (sometimes I also need to unwind therefore love good action or horror films). I can spend hours upon hours talking about movies, especially with people who enjoy movies as much as I do.

Fantasy books and Tabletop RPG - when I was younger, I used to play a lot (usually led the games as storyteller), nowadays not as much. It is still one of my greatest passions though, and I have most cherished memories about those times. Now I mainly read (and write) to compensate for the lack of storytelling in my life.

History (I know, boring as hell to some, but I like it - especially the 600 B.C.- 1800 A.D. period). Just love visiting museums wherever I am, or roam the city looking for some lovely architecture and statues.

Football (used to watch Premier League and La Liga, now due to lack of time at least Champions League, Europa League, World Cups, EUROs and important matches). When I had time I watched American Football as well.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
orchestral/instrumental music (I absolutely love soundtracks from movies and games, or just "plain" classical music; I have lists of tracks that can bring you to tears, make you feel like you're on an adventure, invincible hero, or just make you scared senselesss)

rock/indie rock/folk rock (Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, Mumfords and Sons, The Beatles, Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party, Mando Diao, We Are Scientists, Kasabian, The Strokes, The Killers, The Kooks, The Wombats, The Fratellis, Franz Ferdinand, Razorlight, Theory of a Deadman, Rooney, OneRepublic, Joe Purdy...)

Books:
Good fantasy / sci-fi / horror.

Movies:
Are you serious? Not. Enought. Space. It runs to dozens, maybe even hundreds.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I personally consider most things I do amazing, so just pick a date in the calendar and let me tell you an incredible story... (What an admirable humility, I know, I know!) :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Dozens of funny or just plain weird stories from my various psychology internships and volunteering. Working with people all day long guarantees some crazy and beautiful stories and moments.

Almost philosophical debates just about anything because I love having a good conversation. I consider myself curious and broad-minded. I can also be master of silence and just keep to myself if you're not interested in conversation (with me), I do have an on/off button. ;-)

(I also have a degree in psychology, and am certified in crisis intervention and counseling - the only valuable skills I have I guess.)

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Morocco, Palestine, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In
