About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Traveling the United States on sabbatical to learn a bit more about what I want our next step in life to be. Hoping to share a bit about the world I've seen and make more sense of it as is.

ABOUT ME

I'm a two-time returned Peace Corps Volunteer who has taught internationally in Georgia, Albania, India, and Paraguay for 10 years from a small town in Illinois, USA. I enjoy cooking, reading, walking, and listening to music/podcasts/audiobooks. I like to watch television, but feel guilty when I overindulge.

I love music. I used to listen to the staple diet of classic rock (one reason I learned to play bass guitar), but have expanded my tastes. Currently enjoying Battles, Somali Yacht Club, Justice, and Neon Indian.

PHILOSOPHY

Dedicated to the Future with honor to the Past.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I used to exclusively host and enjoyed showing people around my city of Permet for a extended stays. I surfed in Singapore, which was great. Abundant hope lies in getting to know a place through someone else's eyes.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

People make the place. I firmly believe that. I travel not only to see things, but share our lives as others share theirs.

And it's probably the only time I can cook Mbeju (when I share it with someone else). You are in for a treat.

I enjoy the couchsurfing experiences where people do tend to stay more than a day.

Interests

Cooking. Sleeping. Showing People around where I live and helping them plan the next phase of their journey.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music (Rush, Yes, Daft Punk, Primus, Neil Young, Arcade Fire, Neon Indian). Movies (Comedies, some action films, could always go for something thoughtful with good cinematography). Books-anything Steinbeck, Vonnegut, and Pollan, Ferguson.

I am open to suggestions as I mostly read nonfiction.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Living in Georgia with a family during the summer of 2008. It's a shame the Russian invasion turned that into a short lived experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to wrap your earphones so they never tangle again.

I can learn to resist anything but temptation.

I can share recipes and dishes with you and much more...one of my friends from Peace Corps Albania said if I was a book type, I would be pop non-fiction, like something Malcolm Gladwell puts out. There were a lot of heads nodding after that...which I'm still not quite sure if that is a good or bad thing.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am fairly self-reliant, low impact, and want to abide by the rules you set. Usually out the whole day or from late morning to late evening.

I like to cook as it is the perfect excuse for my exploring grocery stores. Sometime I likes to practice my Spanish.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Armenia, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Kosovo, Malaysia, Montenegro, Netherlands, Peru, Singapore, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates
