Thats a tough one.... I am very open for new experiences concerning this. The best books i read so far are: Die Blechtrommel by Grass, The Idiot by Dostojewskij and Kafkas Der Prozess.
Concerning Movies: Lars van Trier, Kubrick, Coppola, Jarmush, Scorcese... there are to many good directors out there to be listed...
