About Me

ABOUT ME

Constantly traveling between NYC, New Jersey and Florida within the US. I am usually in Edinburgh during the month of August.

I like to laugh and make others laugh.

I like learning.

Traveling gives me a more fulfilling life in almost every respect except that it's impossible to date. Anyone else have this problem? Please discus with me. Thanks!

I am health conscious. I eat healthy and exercise.
That said, I love food. Generally, healthy food but I allow myself to cheat on occasion.

PHILOSOPHY

If you put enough good deeds into the vast ocean of humanity, you get a few waves of happiness splashed back at you.
Furthermore, one bad deed often spawns multiple bad deeds, so it's bound to come back at you.
I try to live an honest life and help others achieve happiness.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My home is constantly changing. I rent days or a month at a time right now. But when I have room, I look for a few people that will be in the area and I contact them to see if they are in need.
____________

Usually I host, sometimes I just meet people but recently I thought it would be fun to surf. ....it seems that no one wants to host me though. :-(

I host because I enjoy meeting the people. I am not here to simply offer you a free place to stay.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Watching and hearing a glacier calve. We were over a mile away but I could see it clear from our small ship. First was the awesome sound, like thunder, ripping through the environment as if it came from everywhere and was in everything. So deep and all-encompasing, it had no starting point or end point, it just was. Nothing else could be so strong and ominous. Watching the chunks of ice fall into the water, a calamitous crash, a huge splash, and then it was all swallowed by something even bigger; the ocean.
Nature... It sure is amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Some of my old info on Key West that is hopefully still acurate but use trip adviser to research any restaurants or attractions as it will be up to date on quality:

Let's start with the sunset, shall we?
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/astronomy.html?n=1080
The above link appears to show the sun setting a couple minutes later than it does but it is accurate enough.

I like to take my guests up Duval street before sunset so they can see it in the daylight because it will be a very different scene on the way back.

20-40 minutes before sunset, show up at Mallory Square.
A good way to get there is to walk all the way up Duval until you hit 0 Duval. YES, there is a zero Duval street but that's not important unless you want to book a jet skiing adventure (very fun) or one of their other offerings. It's a booth at the end, on the left. Do keep to the left as the road ends and bypass the booth. Wander all the way back. Eventually, on a pier, you will want to go left along the water and you will enter Mallory Square from the side.

Mallory Square has an array of different performers and booths for artists and food venders. Spend your time exploring. Try to find the guy selling fresh coconuts, opened right in front of you with a machete. If you need an espresso, try the cuban espresso (sweet and smooth) at Meson De Peppe but not bother going there for food. I'll suggest a better place for food later.

As the sun starts going down, find a place along the water where you want to view the sun going to sleep for the night. Feel free to stay afterwards for a few more performers.

By now it's probably a good time to eat so consider an authentic Cuban place called Juan Loves Lucy. Would it surprise you to learn the owners are Juan and Lucy? They also own another Cuban restaurant called havana 1. Juan Loves Lucy is a short walk down Duval at 124 Duval. A small side entrance that leads back into an enclosed courtyard. I like to recommend this place because it is very good and not as expensive as most of my other recommendations.

And now, as you walk the rest of Duval after dinner, you will see a vibrant night life. Everything from a Jazz club to a clothing opt rooftop bar. Mojito's, Margarita's, shots, beers of all types... just about anything you want to drink and anything you want to entertain you.

I need to take a break from writing but below will be some other notes and I will update this more later.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook but I seem to be very slow at it. I can take us all out to eat though! lol
I can repair things around the home, offer herbal advice for certain ailments? hhhmmm, I guess I'm pretty decent at a relaxing massage or getting out any knots with massage and stretching.
I can teach you some meditation or be an inspiring workout buddy.
I'm also always traveling so we can talk about travels and potentially coordinate our plans. Edinburgh, in August, for example, is a place that I always rent. So I can offer you a place to stay there. Or in NJ, NY or FL when I'm there. :)
