CURRENT MISSION
Figuring out who the heck I am and where I want to be.
ABOUT ME
Well well...Where to start? I'm 26 years old, gay, and was born and raised in the Midwest--Now I currently live in San Francisco California.
I've been to four countries so far, and adding to the list.
I'm quirky & awkward. I love parrots & marine life. Always looking for tips on good snorkeling spots and aviaries.
Did I mention I like parrots?
Are there such things as creepy bird ladies? I may be one of them.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I haven't been super active on couch surfing over the last few years. At the moment where I live in San Francisco (hoping that will change soon) I don't have the space to host, and working and school keeps me pretty busy.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I first broke my couch surfing cherry in 2011. Growing up I was raised never to trust strangers. Fate would have it that I met a person who would forever change my life. However that which is so deeply ingrained dies a very slow and painful death.
My first couch surfing experience was with a young mother and her daughter in the comforts of the Midwest and I hate to admit but I was still afraid. These were complete strangers that were willing to let complete strangers stay in their house. My mother always taught me never to trust a stranger, and in my mind all strangers had white vans, a criminal record and heaps of candy at their homes. Shortly after meeting the two and discovering that there was no van, and they had no candy (I was sad about that one) and their criminal record was clean (I checked....JK) I was able to breath easy, now my mother on the other hand....
In my innocent youth I never had any qualms with approaching another young child in the McDonald's play place and striking up a riveting conversation and playing tag-you're-it. However things were drastically different in my adult years. I may never know the straw that broke the camels back to turn me into a social recluse, but then again it doesn't matter. At this point I think my camel got tired of being hungry and ate all that straw.
There I was, in a strangers home talking to them as if I had known them for years. It was right there where the seed was planted that would forever change my life… and I couldn't have asked for a more amazing person to take me on that journey then the person that I was traveling with.
I've met some amazing people in the spirit of couch surfing. Even though I haven't really had the opportunity to experience a whole lot as far as hosting or traveling, but the moments that I have experienced left me wanting more. More out of life, more out of me, and more out of this world. And here's hoping that will change. World, here I come.
