One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Last fall, I was able to visit Grand Cayman with my whole family. My uncle, two cousins, sister, and I went SCUBA diving off the coast of Seven Miles Beach. On our first dive, we went down to 90ft, and as I was drifting in the water, I looked up and could see the outline of the boat perfectly. The visibility was almost infinite, and I have never seen so many beautiful fish.
I was also able to study abroad in Rome, Italy, during the fall of 2011. Near my apartment, there was a gelato shop I frequently visited. The grumpy old man behind the glass would refuse to serve me until I had a conversation with him in Italian, and I had ordered my gelato perfectly. The first few times, when I messed up my pronunciation, he would just scowl at me while the young men working behind the bar on the other side of the shop yelled helpful hints on how to pronounce certain words. When I finally was able to order correctly, the grumpy old man's lips would turn up just a little bit and he would grumble, and then he would give me my gelato. I miss him!
