About Me

Hi, I'm Addy. I'm currently a college student (nearly graduated), studying American Studies with focuses in youth education, museums and public history, racial justice, and the arts for social change. I'm easygoing, warm, and consider myself an extroverted introvert. I love to dance, be outdoors, read, and look at, think about, and sometimes make art. Outside of school, I work at a community arts studio completely for free for high school students and play saxophone in a large brass brand.

Last summer I worked at an art museum in NYC, and this summer I'm doing independent research that's leading me to a few different places in the U.S.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I really believe in the ethos of couchsurfing, exchange based on care and human connection instead of money. In general, I'm trying to more actively align my values of sustainability, equity, and justice with how I live my life, which includes traveling through platforms like couchsurfing. I've had wonderful experiences couchsurfing, have met amazing people all over the world, and hope to host in the future when I have my own long term place.

Music, Movies, and Books

I read all the time. I particularly like to read speculative fiction and magical realism, poetry, memoirs, essays, and non-fiction. Some of my favorite writers include Gabriela Garcia Marquez, Audre Lorde, and Octavia Butler. Ask my what I'm currently reading/let's exchange reading recommendations!

I love live music more than anything (especially when I can dance!). My music taste can change a lot. I most consistently listen to: funk/jazz/R&B/soul/hip-hop, alt-rock, folk and folk-rock, classical. This past month, I've been listening to a lot of Tank and the Bangas, Esperanza Spalding, Labi Siffre, Sufjan Stevens, The Roaches, Debussy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My sophomore year of college, I took a semester off and wwoof-ed (volunteer farming) and workway-ed around France for five months. It was my first time outside of the U.S. and first ever time traveling alone. I grew in powerful ways, learned new skills, and met wonderful people from all over.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you some basic swing dancing moves. Also happy to cook a meal/share recipes.

I'm always on the lookout to learn to play the harmonica, if you happen to play. I also always want to learn more about the people, places, and communities I'm visiting.

I can cook a meal/share recipes, and am excited to share about myself, my communities and culture, and do some language exchange.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am a very considerate guest and sharer of space, having lived in many different cooperative living situations before. I can offer my friendly, youthful spirit, and good conversation. I also would be happy to cook/contribute a meal, and definitely wash dishes/clean my space.
